Various Artists - Timeless
"Timeless Hank" is already making such an impact that it has garnered a grand total of five Grammy nominations this year. In honor of Hank's 78th birthday (which would have been September 17), Lost Highway Records released this twelve-song collection eight days after that date on September 25th, 2001.
Sheryl Crow is nominated in the "Country Vocal Performance" Grammy category with her twangy version of "Long Gone Lonesome Blues," as is Lucinda Williams and her rootsy cover of the famous tune, "Cold, Cold, Heart." Ryan Adams, with his cracking voice on "Lovesick Blues" stands alongside the nomination that "The Man in Black" (Johnny Cash) got for the awesome and truly old time sounding "I Dreamed About Mama Last Night."
Other famous Hank tunes that are covered are: Beck with "Your Cheatin' Heart," which sounds like a bedtime lullaby instead of a Country song, Keb' Mo' with the second best song from "Timeless" ("I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry,") which sounds like it has Country and Blues mixed in to create a wonderful sounding cover. Hank Williams III brilliantly sings and plays "I'm A Long Gone Daddy," with as much charm and charisma as his granddaddy had.
