Wynonna Judd - Live in Venice
This DVD is a part of a series that Image Entertainment is doing called Music in High Places. They are taking various artists and having them perform acoustic sets around the world. Some of the world's most beautiful landmarks serve as backdrops for these shows. Wynonna takes us to Italy, and as she tours around the country we get to sit in on some acoustic sessions with her and her band.
The neat thing about this project, is that there are no elaborate sets. It is just Wynonna, her back-up group of three and some acoustic guitars. There are no microphones, no electronic gizmos and no elaborate stage costumes. As Wynonna says frequently throughout the show, it is just about her and her music. She sings a couple of her hits, including one that she performed on the TV show Touched By An Angel. "Testify To Love" is one of my favorite songs by Wy. She also sings a version of "How Great Thou Art" a capella that is unreal. The setting for that particular song is the Basilica di San Patronio, a church rich in history.
While this isn't a live Wynonna concert, it is still very worthwhile to see. Wynonna shares many of her thoughts throughout the show. Extra features also include Wynonna continuing to just talk and share her feelings on various things. There is some footage of the band and crew on the road - getting there, behind the scenes footage and some shots of the incredible scenery around Italy. Not only do you get to hear some great Wy songs, you get a taste of Italy too. It definitely made me add Italy to my wish list of places to see some day.
