Play It Loud is Chris Cagle's debut album, and what a debut it is. Of the 10 songs on the album, Chris wrote or co-wrote eight. They range from kickin' country rockers to gentle ballads and everything in between.
The album starts out with the first single, "My Love Goes On And On," with its infectous rhythm and chorus. A sure fire get-out-on-the-floor-and-dance tune. The mid-tempo "Laredo" follows, with its story of hope that the lead character can stop his girl from leaving him. He sings, "And bring to mind the first kiss we shared at the old town square when she drives down there, 'cause that's a day she said she could never forget." "The Safe Side" is about regrets... looking back at your relationship and wishing that you'd done things differently. To commit instead of staying on the safe side. "She's the train that I didn't take, the big commitment I just couldn't make, for fear of breaking my heart, I didn't risk the ride." Country By The Grace Of God, has got to be one of the best country anthems out there. Another one to make you get up and dance. The next song, "Ton Of Love," is my absolute favorite, being the ballad-lovin' person that I am. It's absolutely gorgeous!! "I'm blown away when I look at you, while you look at me, 'cause you see me so completely." The title track is another rocker about the rhythm of love. "I wanna wake the neighbors, make the headlines in the morning paper. No, I don't wanna turn it down, 'cause there's nothing like the rhythm of love. So play it loud." In "Who Needs The Whiskey," the character is an alcoholic with a very understanding and loving partner who will be "forever by your side." The next song, "The Love Between a Woman and a Man" gives a glimpse of a man who learned all he needed to know from his mother and father. "We barely had nothin' but we didn't need much except for the love between a woman and a man." "Lovin' You Lovin' Me" is another great love song. "It's so nice when we're alone and your eyes dance with mine. And it tastes so sweet when you lay those lovin' lips on me." The final track, "Rock The Boat," is another party song that reminds me a great deal of Garth Brooks' "Ain't Goin' Down 'Til The Sun Comes Up." "Come along, anything goes. Yeah, Bon voyage, tonight we're gonna rock the boat." Song List:

I'm giving this album a 4 3/4. Chris has got a great collection of songs here. It's a bit heavy on the rockin' party-type songs, but the ballads that are included are excellent.
