Many exciting things happened in country music in the year 2000. From marriages, and baby announcements, to Superstar tours & the 75th Anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry.
Some of the more notable stories follow:
- Garth Brooks announces his retirement from touring, but says he will record one last album.
- Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw have a little horse trouble in New York.
- The Grand Ole Opry celebrates 75 years.
- The Dixie Chicks release "Goodbye Earl" which provokes protests on the subject of murder.
- Tim McGraw and Faith Hill join together to put on the Soul 2 Soul tour. One of the year's most successful.
- Kenny Rogers stages a come back. After a 13 year period, he once again rides the top of the charts with "Buy Me A Rose."
- Shania Twain's Come On Over not only remains near the top of the album lists, but is certified at 18 million in sales, making her the top selling female artist in any genre.
- A 12-year-old youngster by the name of Billy Gilman becomes the youngest singer to receive a platinum album.
- Work begins on the new $37 million building for the Country Music Hall of Fame.
- Garth and Sandy Brooks announce they will divorce.
- The Judds reunite with their Power To Change Tour.
