rom my very first listen to this CD, I knew I would be a Keith Urban fan for life. This is far from his first release, having been the lead singer for the band, The Ranch prior to going solo. He also had a solo album back in his native Australia, prior to moving to Nashville.
The album is very relationship oriented, with songs about falling in love, dealing with partners that are afraid of commitment, realizing how lucky you are in your relationship, and thinking that the other person knows how you feel, even though you don't say it.
The songs on this album are a joy to listen to, and many should do well on country radio. Here are my feelings about each of the individual songs.
It's a Love Thing - This song is so infectious. Everytime I hear it I just gotta sing along. It's currently sitting at 22 on the country singles charts, as I write this.
Where the Blacktop Ends - Steve Wariner co-wrote this tune. It's another upbeat song, and is also one of the most country-sounding on the album. Steve also sings background vocals here.
But for the Grace of God - I just love this song. It talks about how he notices just how lucky he is to have been blessed with a happy relationship.
Your Everything - While it's true that I'm a sucker for a great love-ballad, this one tops the list of my favorites. The lyrics are so wonderful: "Be the moon that moves your tides, the sun coming up in your eyes." This is a perfect wedding song!
I Wanna Be Your Man (Forever) - Get out those dancing shoes. This one will make you get up and wanna move. It's zydeco, and so much fun to listen to. And if you listen closely, you can hear Emily and Martie of the Dixie Chicks singing backup vocals here. Keith played on their Fly CD, and they return the favor here.
A Little Luck of Our Own - Luck can be good or bad. When things aren't going well, two people can join together to make their own good luck. Nice mid-tempo song.
You're the Only One - Absolutely gorgeous ballad here! It's got an r&b sound to it. You can really hear the feeling in his voice too. He dedicates this song to "Laura." Lucky lady, she is.
If You Wanna Stay - This song is about someone that doesn't want to commit, and the singer says "Go if you wanna go, stay if you wanna stay."
Don't Shut Me Out - Another mid-tempo song talking about a person trying to help another out, offering a shoulder.
Out On My Own - This one is about knowing that the relationship is over. Another great one.
Rollercoaster - Pure fun!! This is a great instrumental that Keith wrote.
I Thought You Knew - Sometimes one person might think the other knows that they care, even though they don't express it vocally. Great ballad, co-written with Skip Ewing and Matt Rollings.
