Last week was a week filled with awards in the music, movie, and television industries. "The People's Choice Awards" aired on Sunday, January 10th, and "The American Music Awards" were shown on Monday, January 11th. I'll be using this feature to recap both shows. First, The People's Choice Awards. While the American Music Awards are strictly for the music industry, the majority of awards handed out at The People's Choice Awards are for either movies, or television. The show was hosted by Ray Romano, of the tv series, Everyone Loves Raymond. Stars like Christina Applegate, James Cameron, Carol Burnett, Brooke Shields, and Jay Leno represented the movie and television industry, while Elton John, Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, Celine Dion, and LeAnn Rimes represented the music industry. The musical categories that had country artists nominated were: (Winners are shown in purple.)
Garth performed the song dedicated to his mom, "It's Your Song," in front of a video screen which showed images from the song's video. Later on, Elton John and LeAnn Rimes sang a beautiful duet, "Written in the Stars," which is on Elton's newest album. Elton played a white baby grand, while LeAnn stood by him, and a choir backed them up. Now on to The American Music Awards. The show was hosted by Brandy, star of Moesha and Melissa Joan Hart, star of Sabrina, the Teen-age Witch. Since the AMAs are all music-related, there were many more musical performances in many different musical gendres. Country Music was represented by The Dixie Chicks, singing "Wide Open Spaces," and Trisha Yearwood, singing "Powerful Thing," backed up by Garth Brooks. The categories that had country artists nominated were: (Winners are shown in purple.)
