Grammy Awards Recap

Each time I watch an awards show that is not specifically for Country Music, I end up being bored for half the show. Well, maybe not half the show, but this Grammy telecast was far from spectacular.

It started ok, with Will Smith singing a melody of his hits, and the Dixie Chicks performance was really interesting. But nearly everything, except for the two awards presented in the country genre, up 'til Faith Hill's performance was pretty lackluster. I kept looking at the clock, and waiting for the show to end.

I also gotta put my 2 cents in here about Jennifer Lopez's barely-there dress. I'm far from being a prude, but to me the dress was tasteless. Then there were all Rosie O'Donnell's cut downs of Whitney Houston. I felt they were very uncalled for. I didn't see any need to bring up any star's run-ins with the law. But, I guess that she was just reading the material she was given.

Ok.. down to the nitty gritty of the country parts of the show.

As I mentioned above, I really did enjoy the Dixie Chicks singing Goodbye Earl as well as debuting the video. It seemed that the camera spent a lot of time viewing the video, which really should have been an enhancement, not a detraction from their live performance. Nevertheless, I was looking forward to it, and will look forward to it debuting on CMT in the Delivery Room on March 1st.

Ray Romano and Kevin James came out with Martina McBride, who looked wonderful, as usual, to present the award for Best Country Album.

The winner was Fly by The Dixie Chicks.
As the program signed off for the first batch of commercials, I barely caught awards given out earlier, and noticed that Shania Twain had won Best Country Song for "Come On Over." This surprised me that they'd announce winners in the credits without any voice-overs saying who won. This to me made the show confusing, and I actually had to look up some of the winners online after the show.

Faith Hill performed Let Me Let Go, and she looked wonderful in her dress, but stood very stiff. I didn't care for the way she sang the song, however. She sounded like she was trying to make the song more R&B-sounding. I don't think the song is that country-sounding to begin with, but she really changed the way it sounded before. It seemed like she was trying to fit in with the L.A. crowd with this performance, rather than represent country music. Just my 2 cents again.

Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black came out with Ray Benson from Asleep at the Wheel to present the award for Best Female Vocalist

The winner was Shania Twain for Man! I Feel Like a Woman.
Unfortunately Shania wasn't in attendance, and Clint made a lame joke about her "waxing her belly."

There were no other country performances, nor presentations. Read the Grammy Winners list in full.

What did you think of the show? Who did you think was Best Dressed?, Worst Dressed?, and who gave the Best Performance?
