This isn't my first Mark Wills CD. I also have his Wish You Were Here CD. I wondered if Mark could top that CD, and after just one listen, I was convinced that he somehow had done so. There are plenty of good, soulful ballads, but there are several upbeat numbers that should see some radio play as well. Mark can sing the heck out of a ballad, but he's certainly not limited in any way to only being a balladeer, as some critics have named him. Here are my comments on each of the thirteen songs on this disc.
This Can't Be Love - This song just cries out to be released to radio. Although Mark's record company has decided on "Almost Doesn't Count" for a follow-up single to "Back to One," this one is sure to be picked as an upcoming single. Its infectious chorus will have you singing along after just one listen. This is also the song that he started out his show with, when I saw him on February 11, 2000, in concert in Las Vegas.
Rich Man - Mark talks about being a rich man, but not in the terms of money, of what's more important... love. The Perfect Conversation - Another great ballad that talks about the perfect conversation always ends, before we say goodbye. Still Waiting - This is a sad song about all the children that are neglected, whether it's that their dads don't come visit them, or that they are living in a group home without a real family, or those that are unlucky enough to be born into families that can't take care of them because of drugs or alcohol, or just lack of money. Because I Love You - This one is another fun one to sing. It's upbeat, and has some neat vocal intonations. Because I love you, I'm hopelessly, endlessly yours, heart and soulfully, and I devotedly do it cause I, do it cause I, do it cause I, do it cause I love you. Right Here - Another ballad, and one of my favorites on this cd. Time Machine - The story behind this song is so neat. Mark talks about how he wishes he had a time machine, cuz if he did he would go back and change things... and he would divert a Dallas parade, and for a little longer we'd have JFK. He also mentions Patsy Cline, Martin Luther King, Elvis, and John Lennon. But the main thing he'd want to do was go back when his girl left him and change what he said to her. Permanently - Another upbeat tune here. Sure hope they'll release this one. It's great. Almost Doesn't Count - This is a cover of Brandy's song. It's a tender ballad... "almost made you happy baby, didn't I, didn't I?" Forget About Love - Another upbeat song, and so catchy. Definitely radio material. In My Arms - Mark co-wrote this song for his daughter, Mally, and it will bring a tear to the most hardened heart. Everything There Is To Know About You - This one is upbeat too. Talks about wanting to know all about the other person. Back To One - Still can't believe this didn't make #1, but it did go as high as #2 on the country charts. This song is so awesome. I can listen to this over and over and never get tired of hearing it. |

I'd rate this CD 5 out of 5. Mark just keeps getting better all the time. I gotta admit, it is ballad heavy, but when Mark's singing, it doesn't matter if it's an uptempo song, or a lovely ballad. It's great!
