This CD is my first taste of Terri Clark, and what a taste it is. This album represents Terri's third release, with her first being self-titled, the second Just The Same. The album contains an eclectic mix of styles, from rockin' songs, to ballads, and even one that is very reminiscent of Patty Loveless' style on which she's backed up by Alison Krauss, and there's even a bluesy number that's great as well. In the liner notes Terri notes: "I know this album is a slight departure from my first two albums, I just followed my heart and I hope you like what you hear." Boy, do I! Here's my thoughts on the songs individually:
Now That I Found You - I love this song, and so do the fans, as this single was a #1 hit (on R&R) for Terri. She's proved she can sing 'em fast, and she can do a mean ballad as well. Everytime I Cry - At the time of writing this review, this was Terri's latest single, and it's really moving up the charts. The song talks about a relationship that just isn't going to make it, but she keeps taking him back, thinking things will change, but they never do. That's How I Feel - If Terri's gonna release another song from this album, I hope it's this one. It's got hit written all over it. The man in the song hides his feelings, and the woman is expressive and can't understand why he thinks that "silence buys you time." You're Easy On The Eyes - This song is so much fun. The video is great as well. Getting Even With The Blues - What can't Terri do? She sings 'em fast, slow, country, rock, and now the blues. You can just feel every word she sings here. Till I Get There - Another breakup song, which Terri does so well. "There's a place I'm going to, where I'll be over you, and I'm gonna go till I get there." Not Getting Over You - Here's another great ballad along the lines of "Now That I've Found You," but dealing with a breakup. This Ole Heart - You want traditional country? This song is it. Love it! Cure For The Common Heartache - Terri reminds me a lot of Patty Loveless on this song, both style-wise, and vocal quality. Alison Krauss backs her up here and they sound great together. That's Me Not Loving You - Sort of "I Told You So" song here. After breaking up, Terri sings, "You never would forget the love you could have kept." Unsung Hero - Here's another upbeat song. "And this song I sing is my gift. And I swear that I mean every word." |
Here are several audio clips in RealAudio format, of songs from How I Feel courtesy of CD Now. |

I'd rate this CD 5 out of 5. It's one of my favorites, and it's not often that it leaves my CD player.
Purchase this, or Terri's other releases from my Country Music Bookstore.
