Diamond Rio

Diamond Rio is one of my favorite groups, and as such, whenever they come out this way I try to make a point to see them. I've seen their show five times now and they have never disappointed. I last saw them at Konocti Harbor Resort in Kelseyville, CA, but this time they played at my favorite venue, Feather Falls Casino which is the closest place anyone plays to where I live, and a nice small venue with good sound.

The concert started right on time at 8:00 pm, which is really rare. The guys came out to thunderous applause and sang their first #1, "Meet In The Middle," then went into "Love a Little Stronger."

One thing I noticed that was different this show was that the guys did a lot more medleys to fit in more songs. I don't remember them doing this so much before, but it's great to hear all your favorites.

Marty Roe When they broke to do some talking Marty mentioned that they stayed in Oroville last night and asked are they still in Oroville. We all shouted out that they were. Marty talked about playing golf, and that it was really windy, and that is his excuse for not doing well. He mentioned that they were coming out with a new album in July called Completely. He also mentioned that Dan Truman wasn't with the group that night. His eldest son was graduating, and Dan was home attending the graduation. Marty mentioned that when they started Dan's son was in first grade. He said that the time has gone by quickly, but in the past 12 years they have us to thank for all the success that they've had. Marty also mentioned that they were getting in Haggard country, and maybe they should do a Haggard number, but then he changed his mind.

Other than what was said above, which wasn't said all at one time, there wasn't too much talking during the show. Towards the end, Dana takes the mic and the other guys relax a bit while Dana chats with the audience. He mentioned that Jimmy Olander is the ACM Guitar player of the Year and that on Tuesday he was going to be a father. Everyone cheered at that. He also pointed out a guy in the audience who he said has a lot of guts to wear the colors that he's wearing in this neck of the woods. He pointed to a guy 2 seats from me who was wearing a Lakers jersey. The guy then stood up and put his hand in the air like "Thank you, thank you," obviously a proud fan, even if he is in the area where the Kings are from. (For those of you that don't follow basketball, like me, the Kings and Lakers are in the playoffs and the Lakers had won the game the previous night, so wearing the jersey was like rubbing it in the Kings fans' face.) Dana also said he would have wore his Lakers jersey that night but he didn't want to get shot. From there Dana leads into the section of the show called "Travel With Diamond Rio," where they do a little bit of this and a little bit of that. This is where they bring out a stand up drum set and Dana shows his drumming ability.

Below you'll see the set list from the show:
