Rascal Flatts played at Feather Falls Casino on May 22, 2001.

This was my first time seeing them. This show was all General Admission seating, so I arrived early to line up for a good seat. I got really lucky to sit in the second row, right behind where I sat for Collin Raye two weeks prior.

The guys started right at 8:00 pm, and came out playing "This Everyday Love," which got everyone on their feet, clapping and singing along. I wrote down "We Got Love" for the next song, although I don't remember the song now, and it wasn't one from their album.

Jay started singing "Do Wah Ditty" letting the audience sing alternating lines. He got to the line that talks about the person being fine, and Jay said "Like me." Gary then said, "That's not the line!" He said it's more like

"crazy like me." pointing to Jay. Everyone laughed at that and they continued the song with the correct lyrics and got a big hand. To that, I think it was Gary who said, "Can we take you on the bus with us?"

Gary LeVoux Next, they sang "Waiting All My Life" and then Gary said they wanted to do something a little different for us. It was a song that they wanted to put on the album, but they were told no. They wanted to try it out and see if we liked it, and if so, they'd try to get it on the next album. He said that it was based on an 80's rock song, and but it was "country." When he said "country" he made little quote signs in the air.

The song was a parody of Rick Springfield's hit, "Jesse's Girl," but they called it "Bubba's Girl." The line that goes "How can I find me a woman like that?" they switched to "How can I find me a cousin like that?" It was really funny. At the end of the song, Gary notices that Jimmy Mattingly had gone to the back and wasn't playing on the song. He said, "What's the matter, Jimmy, wasn't that "country" enough for you?" Jimmy said, It wasn't "country" and it wasn't 80's rock." So, Gary tells him to show them what "country" is.

Jimmy MattinglyJimmy went to the front of the stage and played an awesome fiddle solo. When he was done, he played a few notes that everyone would recognize as the intro to "Praying for Daylight."

I'll list below the actual song list of what he sang.

The guys have a wonderful rapport with each other and the audience. When they sang "Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me" they said that they liked to take old songs and "Flatter-ize" them. They did a really good job with the song, too!

Joe Don Rooney There were a few different times where Jay or Joe Don would have solos and one time Joe Don took a towel and wiped Gary's face as he sang, and tossed the towel in the audience. Then later Gary did the same with a towel, wiping Joe Don's face as he played a solo.

Joe Don and Jay tried to out "solo" each other and Gary, who doesn't play an instrument was back by the guitar, dancing around. As Joe Don was playing his solo, and really getting into it, Jay came up behind him and turned off the amp. Then when it was Jay's solo, Joe Don got behind him and goosed his sides as he tried to play.

Rascal Flatts After the solo session was over, Gary was complaining that they were off doing their things and he was dancing by the drums and going "dahh dahh." He made a sound like a guitar solo. Then the guys took turns playing some notes and Gary would imitate the sounds with his voice. Really sounded like the instrument too!

I absolutely love the guys harmonies. They play well, and they really have fun on stage, and it rubs off on the audience.

If you've liked any of Rascal Flatts songs, do yourself a favor and go see them when they come to your town. They are well worth the admission price. They're headlining this summer, then will go back to opening for Jo Dee Messina this fall. Or, like they like to put it, "they're letting Jo Dee close for them."
