The TNN Music City Awards were held on Monday, June 14th in Nashville, TN, at the Nashville Arena. There were many stars in attendance for Country Music's fan-voted awards, but there were many who weren't there as well. Stars like Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Steve Wariner, Alan Jackson, John Michael Montgomery, Neal McCoy, Joe Diffie, Sara Evans, Tim McGraw, Sawyer Brown, and Lorrie Morgan presented awards or performed their latest hits. On the other hand, stars like Trisha Yearwood, Shania Twain, the Dixie Chicks, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, and George Strait were missing.
Here's the scoop on the show: Tim McGraw lead off the show with a rousing rendition of Something Like That off his new CD, A Place in the Sun.
Terri Clark and Andy Griggs presented the first award of the evening for Vocal Collaboration.
The winner was:
Next, the Wilkinsons up for Star of Tomorrow - Male sang The Yodelin' Blues. They played on the fact that they are a trio of two males and one female, in the category of "Star of Tomorrow - Male" by all wearing tuxes. Amanda had a tux jacket and short shorts, and they all looked adorable. Diamond Rio was next to perform, and they sang Unbelievable.
Brad Paisley, Ty Herndon and Linda Davis presented the award for Song of the Year. The winner was:
Sara Evans nominated for Star of Tomorrow - Female sang No Place That Far.
Naomi Judd and Joe Diffie presented the award for Vocal Duo/Group of the Year. The winner was:
Keith Harling nominated for Star of Tomorrow - Male sang Papa Bear. Sawyer Brown performed next, singing It All Comes Down To Love, and dedicated it to the students and their families of Columbine High.
Chad Brock and Montgomery Gentry presented the award for Vocal Band of the Year.
The winner was:
I never realized just how much Chad Brock and Eddie Montgomery look alike til I saw them standing together. The Kinley's nominated for Star of Tomorrow - Female sang Somebody Out There's Watching. Next Brooks and Dunn presented Charlie Daniels with the Living Legend Award. Lee Roy Parnell, Deana Carter, Bryan White, Steve Wariner, Vassar Clements and others joined Charlie in a rockin' version of The South's Gonna Do It Again. Steve Wariner performed Hands of Time.
Deana Carter and Gary Chapman presented the award for Song of the Year. The winner was:
Gary Allen nominated for Star of Tomorrow - Male sang It Would Be You.
Mark Wills, Bryan White, and Pam Tillis presented the award for Album of the Year. The winner was:
Sons of the Desert nominated for Star of Tomorrow - Male sang a song I don't know the name of. If anyone can tell me what it was, I'll add the correct title. Faith Hill performed This Kiss.
Sherrié Austin, and Cledus T. Judd presented the award for Video of the Year. The winner was:
Michael Peterson nominated for Star of Tomorrow - Male sang Sure Feels Real Good.
Jessica Andrews and Trace Adkins presented the award for Male Star of Tomorrow. The winner was:
Anita Cochran nominated for Star of Tomorrow - Female sang What If I Said. Reba McEntire via videotape, presented the Minnie Pearl Award to Roy Clark. True Value Hardware funded the award, contributing $25,000, of which $12,500 goes to the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, and $12,500 to Roy's charity of choice.
Ricochet presented the award for Vocal Group. The winner was:
Alan Jackson sang Little Man.
Lorrie Morgan presented the award for Male Artist of the Year. The winner was:
Vince Gill sang Kindly Keep It Country.
John Michael Montgomery and Luke Perry presented the award for Female Artist of the Year. The winner was:
Neal McCoy sang The Girls of Summer.
Kenny Rogers presented the award for Entertainer of the Year. The winner was:
Marty Stuart introduced the first performer in a tribute to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Lorrie Morgan who sang a Patsy Cline song that I don't know the name of. Again, if anyone knows the name, please tell me and I'll update the page. Joe Diffie and Kathy Mattea sang a great duet of King of the Road, and Queen of the House. The show ended with the great George Jones singing his latest single, Choices sounding better than ever. This was his first televised live performance since his near-fatal accident in March.
