The June weather was typical... hot, but not miserably so. It's not humid here like it is in the Midwest or east coast in the summer, and being on the lake keeps a nice breeze going, so that by concert time, it's really quite pleasant.
One of the nice perks at Konocti is the trolley. You can call for the trolley to pick you up and take you to other areas of the resort. This is really handy when attending concerts, depending on what part of the resort you are staying in. From where I was, it was perhaps a half mile walk to the amphitheatre, all uphill, so I chose to call the trolley to take me to the show, and walk back.
I arrived at the venue at 6:00 pm for the scheduled 6:30 show. I found my seat in the 8th row and watched as the seats started to fill up. By 6:30, the venue was still only half full, and as 6:45 arrived, I wondered how much of a delay there would be. By 7:00, an announcer took the stage and introduced Nickel Creek.
This was my first time seeing Nickel Creek. I knew them from their videos, and although I don't have their album, Jennifer did review their album, and I had listened to some sound clips of their music, so I knew I would enjoy the show.
The group consists of Sean and Sara Watkins (brother and sister), and Chris Thile. All members are accomplished musicians, and hail from California, however Chris now resides in Nashville. The fourth member of the group, Derek Jones hails from Vallejo, CA, where I lived for 10 years, from 1989-1999. He now lives in Nashville as well.
Many of Nickel Creek's songs were instrumentals, and they didn't give the names of some of them, so the song list below shows their name as "instrumental."
Song List:
Nickel Creek is really talented musically, and their vocals blend really well. They were a pleasure to watch and listen to, and I hope that they'll enjoy continued success. You can see they work hard for what they've obtained so far, and they deserve so much more.
