line Diamond Rio in Concert
line

Diamond Rio played at Konocti Harbor Resort on July 22, 2001.

I have seen Diamond Rio four times now, two of these concerts are reviewed on this site; the Alameda County Fair concert, and Boulder Station concert.

Most concerts have pre-concert music, but we were treated to pre-concert videos. Most of the videos shown were of older songs and artists that you don't hear much from anymore, so it was pretty neat.

I had no idea that there was an opening act until the announcer took the stage and announced her . Her name is Kristin McNamara, and she is 15, and from the Marin County area. She's going to be going to Nashville, and they say she's being courted by several labels. From the show she gave, I can see why. She has a very strong voice, reminiscent of LeAnn Rimes, and is versatile in her music choices.

She opened her show with "Black Velvet," then launched into the Hank Williams classic, "Lovesick Blues."

Kristin McNamara

She sang an original song called "Everything" next, then another song her keyboardist co-wrote called "Love Don't Get More Real Than You." Next, they said she had been trying her hand at writing and playing it for the crowd and we should let her know if we liked the song. She then sang "Unchained Melody" and asked us, with a grin, what we thought.

Here's the full set list.

  • Black Velvet
  • Lovesick Blues
  • Everything
  • Love Don't Get More Real Than You
  • Unchained Melody
  • I Wanna Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart
  • Take It Back
  • You're Not From Here
  • When
  • Sweet Music? (Not sure of the title)

Kristin said she was thrilled to be opening for Diamond Rio, and thanked us for coming. I hope that she will get her break. She really does have a good voice and she seems to have command of the audience as well. She didn't seem nervous at all.
