Ty Herndon Concert Review

Ty Herndon Ty Herndon appeared at the Butte County Fair on August 24, 2000, adding some steam to the end of a mid-summer day that saw temperatures in the upper 90's. Talk about hot!

This was my first time seeing Ty, but if I have anything to say about it, it won't be my last. Ty said that he loves playing in California, so I sure hope that he'll be back somewhere close by again soon.

Ty introduced his band, Ride The West early on in his show, and they received a warm welcome, especially his bass player, who was from Sacramento, CA.

Ty Herndon When Ty sang "Steam," lots of people went up front to dance along, and take pictures. He danced with the music pretty much like he did in the video for the song, and the women went wild for his moves. After the song was through, he told us about his Grandma Myrtle back in Georgia, who has a radio show. He mentioned the station, but I forgot to write down the call letters. He said that she wouldn't play "Steam" at first, saying "Last time I checked, my grandson sang *country* music." She eventually did play the song, but this lead Ty into talking about growing up with gospel music around the house. He sang a beautiful acapella version of "Amazing Grace" and while he did you could hear a pin drop, the crowd was so mesmerized. He lead into a gospel section after that, and invited everyone to sing and clap along with "I'll Fly Away" which they did.

Ty Herndon For Ty's encore he came back out in a black cowboy hat and sang "You Can Leave Your Hat On," which got everyone on their feet, and the women were going nuts. I had heard about this song, and it was included on his latest release, Steam, so I knew it was going to be a treat to hear live, and I wasn't wrong at all. The last song he sang was a cover of the Commodores' Brick House. Again, everyone was really into it, and on their feet, singing, clapping and dancing along.

Ty puts on a heck of a show. He really has a lot of charisma, and his voice is great! I highly recommend his live show to anyone.

Below you'll find the full list of songs that Ty performed. I've included links to audio clips of the songs available, courtesy of Barnes & Noble.
