Tracy Lawrence, Joe Diffie, and Mark Chesnutt together make up the Rockin' Roadhouse Tour. And what a show they put on! I saw them on their stop at the California State Fair in Sacramento, CA on August 22, 2002. The evening was mild, just perfect for an outdoor show.

I was staying at the Hilton nearby, and the hotel had a tram that ran every hour to and from the fair, so I caught the 6:00 pm tram over and made my way to the Lagoon stage where a show was going on. The group performing sang a capella music, and they also incorporated humor into their show. They're called the Edlos. I looked all over for a seat, and all the empty ones seemed like they were being saved. I finally found a seat way to the right side, on the aisle, and I sat down and enjoyed the Edlos performance.

The Edlos went off around 6:45 and then came back around 7:15. In between, I thought I'd chance walking around a bit, so I put my jacket on my seat and the fair map on my chair and hoped no one would take my seat. That's the down side to going alone to shows with general admission. You have no one to save your seat if you have to get up.

I left the Lagoon stage seating area and went back behind the stage area where I saw the guys' buses and trucks parked. I walked around the side towards the front and in between I could see some people next to the buses standing around. I figured these were probably people who won contests to meet Tracy, Joe and Mark before the show. As you can see from the picture to the right, the trucks had the three artist's pictures on the side. The buses themselves weren't marked in any way that would let you know whose bus is whose.

I kept walking towards the front of the buses to see what I could see, and what do you know, Tracy, Mark and Joe came out from between the buses. Unfortunately, as you can see, I wasn't prepared, and I only got a picture of the back of Tracy and side of Joe. Mark had already passed behind the van. I thought about staying, but since I didn't have anyone to watch my seat, I figured I'd be better off going back to my seat, so I walked back to the Lagoon stage area and found my seat was just as I left it, still empty, holding my jacket on back. *whew* That was a relief.

After the Edlos stopped their set around 7:30 pm, pre-concert music was piped in, and we were treated to Tattoos and Scars from Montgomery Gentry.

Right around 8:00 pm, an announcer came on and welcomed us to the Fair. They thanked everyone for coming and warned the people in front that the show involved water, and some people might get wet, so cover your cameras. Tracy, Mark and Joe then came on stage and sang a song they wrote for the tour, called "Rockin' the Roadhouse Down."

After it was over, they left and came back with water balloons which they tossed into the audience. Luckily, neither my camera or myself got wet. I had a photo pass and was right next to the stage, and they didn't toss anything my way.
