line Trisha Yearwood Concert Review
line

Trisha Yearwood headlined in the Las Vegas Hilton on September 28th and 29th. I attended the show on the 29th.

Trisha has been my favorite female artist for a while now, and she's also the artist that I have seen in concert the most often. This show was my 8th time seeing her, and she just keeps getting better with each performance.

When it was time for her show to start, a voice announced, "Would you please rise for the singing of our National Anthem." Everyone rose and Trisha came out on stage and asked us to sing along with her. It was very moving and she had a flag on the stage with her on the side of the drum set, plus the great flag t-shirt she wore. She was in a patriotic mood.

After Trisha finished the "National Anthem," she thanked us for singing with her and mentioned that because of the events of September 11th, they had to cancel some shows. She said when they resumed, they wanted to do it right, and she said that this is what felt right to her. I totally agree. It was done with a lot of class, and was a perfect addition to the show.

Trisha started the show with "She's in Love With The Boy," and then went into "XXs and OOs (An American Girl)," next.

Some of the things I remember about the show... Trisha asked us if we had gambled, and people applauded. She said. "Any winners?" Some clapping... "Any losers?" More clapping... She said, "I know what you mean. I lost $100.00 in 10 minutes. I'm doing my part to get back to normal."

Before she sang "Like We Never Had a Broken Heart," she said that one of the things she likes about her shows is that people will call out song titles and many times they will try to add them to the show. Last year someone called out a song and she thought about it and said... "Yeah, we'll do that." Then, she realized that no one in the band, with the exception of her guitarist, Johnny Garcia, who had been with her 10 years, knew the song, or had played it before. But they had been practicing and they knew it now.

Trisha is often humorous in the things she says. She mentioned about it being her 10th year as a recording artist, and how blessed she is to have the career she's had. Then, she said, "Sometimes I'm funny, and then there is now."

She talked about her friend Kim Richey, who had written several of her songs, and had also toured with her. She told the story of how she first met Kim when she had this great song that she was planning on recording, and Trisha introduced herself and said how she loved the song, and Kim said she was going to put it on her next album. Trisha then tried to get her to give the song to her, but Kim wanted to keep it. So, Trisha then said she changed her tactic and said the song wasn't really that great, and she shouldn't record it. Finally, she wore Kim down and she gave her the song... The song? "Believe Me Baby, I Lied."

She also said one of the requirements of her band was that they have to sing backup on stage. One night after a song where Johnny was supposed to be singing backup, she found out he wasn't doing the singing. So, she said that there was a part in the next song that he would have to sing, and when the part came for him to sing, she'd walk over by him. She said to the audience, it would look like they were having a special moment together, but she was over there to make sure he sang, and she thought we'd like to know this before the song.

Before Trisha sang "I Would Have Loved You Anyway," she said that the song had taken on a new meaning since September 11th. When she first recorded it, it had been a song about a relationship, but now she said to her it tells us how life is short and you should tell people you love them, cuz you never know what will happen tomorrow.

When Trisha got to the last song, she said she had taken to ending her shows with that one, cuz it just felt right... just like the "Star Spangled Banner" felt right to open. I absolutely adore how Trisha sings "Over The Rainbow." Her voice is exceptional and she really does it justice.

I hope that everyone can see Trisha when she visits your hometown. She's worth every penny you'll pay to see her show.
