line Mark Chesnutt Concert Review
line

Mark Chesnutt was on a double bill with Tracy Byrd at Feather Falls Casino on October 12, 2001.

I wasn't sure which of them would open, seeing that Tracy Byrd has a label and a new album, and Mark is currently without a label. Tracy opened the show, and we were told the intermission would be 20-30 minutes. It ended up being 55 minutes and I was contemplating leaving, but the show finally started and after seeing it, I'm so glad I stayed.

Mark, like Tracy Byrd is from Beaumont, TX, and also like Tracy, he has enough hits to fill up a night.

Mark started the show with "It's a Little Too Late," then went into one of the crowd favorites, "Bubba Shot the Jukebox." Mark talks a little more than Tracy, but still not a ton. Below, you'll see the full song list from the night.

Mark Chesnutt Some of the things I remember from the show... Mark asked if anyone was from Austin. A few people cheered, and he said, "This next one's for you. It's what you call a story song." From what I can figure, Mark must sing this song in concert a lot, because many of the fans knew the song and they shouted out "Beer... Bait... and Ammo." The song isn't on any of Mark's album's that I can see, but I have included a sound clip from his website that you can download that is a short MP3 file of the song. It's a lot of fun to listen and sing along with. I sure hope Mark finds a label soon. I miss hearing new music from him.

Mark Chesnutt After he sang "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" his band came out with different instruments, such as a saxophone and I think trumpet. Mark said that being from Texas, he was a big fan of Bob Wills, and if Bob Wills were alive, he thinks that this is what he would sound like. They then played "Jump, Jive an' Wail," which is a song by Brian Setzer. They did a great job on it.

It was great to see Mark and Tracy sing their duet together, "A Good Way To Get On My Bad Side." After this, they both left, then Mark came back for an encore. He said he had always wanted to sing the next song, but there was never the right time to do it. He said now was the right time, and he sang a beautiful version of "Dixie."

Mark Chesnutt Again, if you are into traditional country music, Mark Chesnutt is as country as they come. He mixes a little rock and swing in with his music, and is a real treat to watch live. If you get a chance, make sure and check him out when he's in your area.
