"Well, even though I said I wasn't going to, I did watch most of the award show. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but there were definite parts that I ignored."

The CMA Awards were held at the Grand Ole Opryhouse in Nashville, TN on November 6, 2002. Once again, Vince Gill hosted the show, which was his eleventh year of doing so.

Shania Twain started the show out with a performance of her new single, "I'm Gonna Get Ya Good." She came onto the stage on a motorcycle. She was wearing an all-in-one pantsuit that looked lacey and see-through, but was the kind Cher used to wear, where it's skin colored. She looked fabulous and sounded great as well.

After her performance, Vince Gill came out on a little red tricycle with sparklers on the handlebars. He said that's all they could afford after Shania's production number. Then, in his opening monologue he mentioned this being his 11th year as a host of the show. He teased that there was a line in Vegas on how much weight he'd lose for the show, and wanted to confirm that he'd lost 26 lbs. He said over the last 11 years of doing the show he's lost a total of 326 lbs. And the scary thought is that if he hadn't done the show, he'd weight 600 lbs and Richard Simmons would be in his life.

Nickel Creek was the first group to perform. They sang their current single, "This Side."

Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black presented the first award of the night, the CMA Vocal Group

The award went to:
The Dixie Chicks

Lee Ann Womack sang "He'll Be Back" next. She wore a red off-the-shoulder sparkly long gown and looked wonderful.

Next performance was from Alan Jackson, who sang "That'd Be Alright." He wore a tan and black shirt and jeans with a white hat.

Tracy Byrd and Tammy Cochran presented the next award, the CMA Song of the Year

The award went to:
Alan Jackson for "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)"

Kenny Chesney sang "A Lot Of Things Different."

Jessica Andrews and Marty Roe from Diamond Rio and Richie McDonald from Lonestar presented the award for CMA Album of the Year

The award went to:
Alan Jackson for Drive

Rebecca Lynn Howard sang a shortened version of "Forgive" into the commercial break.

When the show came back Vince had a guitar and played a parody of Kenny's "A Lot of Things Different" about the "horse" incident several years ago. It was pretty funny, even if it was really old news.

Next Brad Paisley performed his latest single, "I'm Gonna Miss Her."

The next presenters were Trick Pony and Blake Shelton who presented the CMA Video of the Year

The award went to:
Brad Paisley for "I'm Gonna Miss Her."

Toby Keith performed his latest single, "Who's Your Daddy" next. While he sang, they showed parts of the video on the screen behind him. At the end of the video, you see the girl from the video making out with Cledus T. Judd in the audience. That was too funny!

Shania Twain presented the award for CMA Male Vocalist

The award went to:
Alan Jackson

Joe Nichols sang a shortened version of "The Impossible" into the commercial break.
