Guide Picks - Top 10 Classic Country Males
Classic artists are those that have recorded prior to the mid 1980s. These are the stars we know now as legends. Many of them are sadly not played on radio, except for during an oldies session. The picks below will comprise what I feel are the ten best albums by classic country males.
1.) The Rock: Stone Cold Country - George Jones
This is another solid album from The Possum. George has a few friends joining him on this project. There is a rousing duet with Garth Brooks, you can hear the distinctive voice of Patty Loveless helping with background vocals and Stuart Duncan lends his fiddle and Mandolin skills. George continues to establish the fact that the experienced artists can more than hold their own with the new crop of rising stars.

2.) 40 #1 Hits - Ronnie Milsap
This two-cd collection contains his original recordings, beginning in 1974 with "Pure Love," and running through his last No. 1 hit, a remake of the Skyliners "Since I Don't Have You." But if 40 #1 songs wasn't enough, Ronnie gives us two new tunes to fall in love with as well.

4.) Oh Boy Presents Merle Haggard - Merle Haggard
Oh Boy Classic Records have been busy re-releasing some great material from the "Classic" artists. Many sound slightly different. He sang them just differently enough that if you were used to singing along with them you would be thrown off balance. However, maybe it isn't so bad to just sit back and listen instead of trying to sing along.

5.) Oh Boy Presents Conway Twitty - Conway Twitty
It is hard to believe that Conway Twitty's golden voice has been silent for eight years now. He is sorely missed. There is no one in the field of country music that could ever hold a candle to him. Oh Boy Records has just released an album containing 14 of Conway's Greatest Hits. It's really nice to hear these great old tunes again.

6.) Songs of Kristofferson - Kris Kristofferson
The best songs on this CD are the ones which other people had hits with. "Me And Bobby McGee" and "Sunday Morning Coming Down" are two of them. Other highlights are "You Show Me Yours (And I'll Show You Mine)," "For The Good Times," and "The Silver Tongued Devil And I."

9.) Oh Boy Presents Willie Nelson - Willie Nelson
Songwriting seems to come naturally to Willie, as twelve songs are written by him alone on this album, and the other three were co-written with one other person; "Little Things" written with Shirley Nelson, "A Broken Promise" written with Hank Cochran, and "Night Life" written with Ray Price.

10.) Young Buck: The Pre-Capitol Recordings - Buck Owens
As you might expect from an early collection, you see signs of greatness. These are all recordings prior to his signing with Capitol Records.
