Guide Picks - Class of 1999
Each year we see new and talented stars debut albums. A first album is always one of the most important in an artist's career. If the first album doesn't fly, most of the time you'll never see a second. The albums below represent artists from the class of 1999.
1) Heart Shaped World - Jessica Andrews
All of the songs on Heart Shaped World feature a seventeen year old whose talent is just beginning to bloom. She knows what she wants and she released an album that was just to her liking, and Byron Gallimore was happy to assist in the production. Instead of comparing this to the teens that released albums at about the same time as Jessica, we should compare it to established artist's album because this collection is almost as good as it gets.

2) You Won't Ever Be Lonely - Andy Griggs
"You Won't Ever Be Lonely" was Andy's big debut single and this song about unconditional love made it all the way to number two on the Billboard Charts, number one on the R&R Charts. His second single, dedicated to his wife, shot to number two on Billboard. Other great songs that were released to radio were "I'll Go Crazy," "Waitin' on Sundown," and "You Made Me That Way," a song about how his wife's love made him the man he is today.

3) Tattoos and Scars - Montgomery Gentry
This album contains such popular songs as first single, "Hillbilly Shoes," "Lonely and Gone" (which made its way to #5 on the Billboard Charts), and "Daddy Won't Sell The Farm," a tale about the plight of farmers everywhere whose land is being bought to build modern day buildings with a "nonsensical" purpose.

4) Who Needs Pictures - Brad Paisley
This debut album from Brad Paisley contains 13 songs, 12 of which Brad wrote or co-wrote. And of those 12, he released four singles, and two of them became No. 1 songs for him. Not a bad ratio for a new artist. Add to that the fact that he can actually play an instrument well, and that makes for a triple threat.

5) It's About Time - Julie Reeves
"Trouble Is a Woman" was a fun release about how people need to watch out for a woman that is scorned. It made it into the top forty on the Billboard charts. The beautiful song, "What I Need," let everyone hear her soft, sweet, and tender way of singing slower songs. Viewers of CMT might remember the funky upbeat song, "It's About Time," which featured her singing from behind a store window. It went to number fifty-six.

8) Untamed - Yankee Grey
The group's first high-octane and energetic single was "All Things Considered," a song that made it all the way to the top ten on the Billboard Charts. Their second, "Another Nine Minutes," did well on the radio and television with its subject matter being of love and wanting to stay with his girl for as long as possible. "This Time Around" was released shortly before the lead singer left and so this slow tune was the last single from the original incarnation of the band.
