Guide Picks - Top 10 Country Music Compilations
Compilation albums are always fun. Whether they be tribute albums, or just collections of songs by various artists, it's always fun to hear your favorite artists singing something a little bit different than what you're used to. Below you'll find my Top 10 favorite country music compilation albums.
1) Ride With Bob - Asleep At The Wheel
With fourteen of countrys best performers helping them, Asleep at the Wheel has produced one of the finest Bob Wills Tribute albums out there. Four of the songs from the album were nominated for Grammys and three of them won. This is a collaboration of newer artists and country legends side by side.

2) Big Mon - Ricky Skaggs and Friends
The Big Mon album is a tribute to Bill Monroe. Not only did Ricky Skaggs play or sing in almost all of these tribute songs, he produced the whole thing too. Each song sounds so fitting for the artist(s) that sing them that you would think they were written especially for them. Go out and get this CD if you love Bluegrass, or even if you've never heard of this genre of music.

3) Dancin' With Thunder - Various Artists
You take Epic Nashville, add the Professional Bull Riders, Inc., (PBR) and what you get is a new CD called Dancin' With Thunder. Featuring ten songs, each by a different artist, the result is an extreme album that reflects the extreme sport it is based on.

4) O Brother Where Art Thou - Various Artists
The soundtrack from the movie of the same name won the 2001 CMA Album of the Year award, and "I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow" received the 2001 CMA Single of the Year award. Plus two other songs were also nominated in the Vocal Event category. A wonderful introduction to traditional and bluegrass music.

5) Down From The Mountain - Various Artists
"Down From The Mountain" was recorded live May 24, 2000 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee as a benefit concert for the Country Music Hall Of Fame. This concert came to be because of the immense popularity of the "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" movie and soundtrack.

6) Timeless: Hank Williams Tribute - Various Artists
You'd be surprised at the variety of artists that are compiled here to pay tribute to Hank Williams. From Keith Richards (Rolling Stones), and Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), Bob Dylan, and Tom Petty, to Blues artist Keb' Mo, alt-country queen, Emmy Lou Harris, and classic country legend, Johnny Cash, each one adds their own touch to these songs.

7) Come Together - America Salutes The Beatles - Various Artists
Collin Raye's version of McCartney's "Let It Be" sounds as good as the original does while Delbert McClinton's rockin' version of "Come Together" is simply inspiring. Delbert says that he was the guy who taught John Lennon how to play the harmonica. Little Texas takes "Help!" and makes it into a harmonic beauty. If you are looking for one of the best Tribute albums ever recorded, look no further than "Come Together: America Salutes The Beatles."

8) Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles - Various Artists
Other artists included on the tribute are Little Texas, John Anderson, Alan Jackson, Suzy Bogguss, Diamond Rio, Trisha Yearwood, Billy Dean, Tanya Tucker, Brooks & Dunn and Lorrie Morgan. If you've grown up with the Eagles music, and you enjoy country, you will most definitely enjoy these performances.

9) Stone Country: The Songs of the Rolling Stones - Various Artists
What happens if you mix a country artist with a rock singer's songs? You may just get a collection like this one, where the country boys (and girls) interpret the Rolling Stones songs from their long career. There are eleven tracks on this CD sung by the likes of Collin Raye, Tracy Lawrence, Travis Tritt, Deana Carter, The Tractors, Sammy Kershaw, Rodney Crowell, Blackhawk, Little Texas, Nanci Griffith and the great George Jones.

10) Tribute To Tradition - Various Artists
Country Music is probably the genre for which most other genres were born from. So after numerous tribute albums to Rhythm and Blues, Rock and Roll, and other artists, it was only natural to have Country Music's best look back into the past and record their favorite tracks. Every song on this CD was a hit when it was released.
