Contemporary artists are those that have recorded from the mid 80s through today. These are the artists that are the ones you will hear most often on country radio. The picks below will comprise what I feel are the ten best albums by contemporary female artists.

1) Hearts in Armor - Trisha Yearwood
In 1992, Trisha Yearwood released her sophomore album, Hearts in Armor, and with the first listen you knew she was bound for stardom. This collection of ten emotional songs and Trisha's undeniably beautiful vocals, make it a must for every collection.

2) Evolution - Martina McBride
From this album there were six total singles released to radio: "Still Holding On," a duet with Clint Black, "A Broken Wing," an empowering song about having a strong sense of self, "Valentine," a beautiful duet with pianist Jim Brickman; "Happy Girl," "Wrong Again," which there is also a beautiful acoustic version of floating around on another album, and "Whatever You Say," a tune that shows off Martina's vocal prowess.

 |
3) Born To Fly - Sara Evans
Have you ever put a CD in your player the first time since buying it, and as you listen to song after song, you think, "Wow, this is a really good album!" I gotta say... when I listened to the first song, I thought just that... then I heard the second, and the third, and fourth... all the way through cut #11, and there is NOT a song on this album that I DON'T like.

 |
4) Single White Female - Chely Wright
The album is a nice mixture of fast-paced songs and ballads. The singles are really well-done, and the rest of the album is not what you'd call filler. The songs have that uniqueness that is Chely, and it's easy to see why this record is her most successful to date.
|
 |
5) Breathe - Faith Hill
To date, this is Faith's most successful album. With hits like the title track, "If My Heart Had Wings," "The Way You Love Me," and the duet with husband Tim McGraw, "Let's Make Love," this album has sold more than seven million copies.
|
 |
6) Mountain Soul - Patty Loveless
Patty ventured into new territory in recording this album of rootsy bluegrass music. While not embraced by radio, her video for "The Boys are Back In Town" is a favorite on CMT.

Here is Lorrie's Greatest Hits Collection.

8) I'm Alright - JoDee Messina
Although not her debut album, this was the album that put JoDee on the charts with the #2 and #4 most played songs in 1998 with "Bye Bye," and "I'm Alright." When "Stand Beside Me" went to #1 for multiple weeks, JoDee became the first woman to have three consecutive multiple week #1s.
