Top Picks - Honky Tonk Tailgate Tour
|
 |
 |
|
The Honky Tonk Tailgate Party is a high energy, action packed concert featuring performances from Daryle Singletary, Rhett Akins and Wade Hayes. Whether you're planning on seeing the tour, or have seen it already, chances are you may want to pick up some music from Rhett, Daryle and Wade. I've compiled a list of two albums from each of them below.

1) That's Why I Sing This Way - Daryle Singletary
That's Why I Sing This Way is a tribute to all the artists that inspired Daryle. The only new song is "That's Why I Sing This Way," a song that perfectly sums up his childhood and how it came to pass that he wanted to grow up and be just like his idol - George Jones. Some of his idols, such as George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Paycheck join him on various songs from the past, and Rhonda Vincent harmonizes on all songs, and Dwight Yoakam gives a haunting Bakersfield sound to "Love's Gonna Live Here Again."

2) Now and Again - Daryle Singletary
This album contains all of Daryle's biggest hits and four stellar new tracks to support them However, of all three singles that the label released from the CD, only "I Knew I Loved You" even approached the Billboard Top 40 chart. While there weren't any new hits to support the older ones, this CD is still a worthy addition to any country music fan's collection.

3) Friday Night in Dixie - Rhett Akins
While you'd think that an independently produced CD would not sound as good as one with a bigger budget, Rhett Akins was able to make his best CD yet, sonically and lyrically. There isn't a bad track on the whole CD. There are some uptempo rockers like the title track and "Highway Sunrise" and some smooth ballads like "In Your Love" to the acoustic version of his first hit, "That Ain't My Truck."

 |
4) Somebody New - Rhett Akins
While none of Rhett's Decca CDs were blockbusters, Somebody New shows where Rhett was heading before he lost his record deal two years later, due to Decca's closure. The centerpiece of the CD is Rhett's smash Billboard No. 1, "Don't Get Me Started." However, there is more to the CD including the western swing of "Too Much Texas" to the smooth, yet stone country sound of "Carolina Line."

5) Old Enough To Know Better - Wade Hayes
With its tried and true country themes and solid country sounds, Wade Hayes' debut CD, Old Enough To Know Better is simply one of the best releases from the 1990's. This CD should be in every country music fan's library.

6) When The Wrong One Loves You Right - Wade Hayes
Shiver is Jamie O'Neal's debut album. It may be our first listen to her as an artist, but it's not the first as a songwriter. O'Neal has written songs that were recorded by LeAnn Rimes, Chely Wright, and Tammy Cochran. She's also recorded background vocals on records by Mindy McCready, Clay Davidson, Jason Sellers, Chely Wright, Ronnie Milsap, Sonya Issacs and others.
