Top 10 Most Memorable Moments from the 2008 CMT Music Awards

From Shelly Fabian, for About.com

The 2008 CMT Music Awards broadcast was filled with many memorable moments. Here are the ten I feel were the most memorable of the night.

13. Toby Keith's performance of "She's a Hottie"

Toby Keith perfomed his latest single, "She's a Hottie," complete with a girl that seemed to come out of the audience and jump onstage and dance by the star towards the end of the song. Soon after, security came and took her away. Made me wonder if she was part of the act, or just a fan.

12. Carrie Underwood's performance of "All-American Girl"

I thought the placement of Carrie Underwood's performance after the big award had been given out was odd. They should have had her perform first, then announce the final award. It made her seem like sort of an afterthought. But, her performance was spot on, and she looked lovely in this metallic gown, with a soft curled hairstyle.

11. Taylor Swift's performance of "Picture to Burn"

I knew Taylor would be a superstar the first time I saw her perform live, but got to see her last week, opening for Rascal Flatts, and see that she's improved her stage presence. I loved her performance here on "Picture to Burn." From her black short dress with the cutout neckline, and her trademark boots, she looked darling, and the fire in the background really added some additional "heat" to the performance.

10. Kellie Pickler winning the "Breakthrough Video of the Year"

I couldn't find a picture of Kellie receiving her award, since she was live via satellite, but Taylor Swift presented the award. Kellie was speechless, thanking people, and then adding, if I forgot you, it's not that I forgot, you... well, actually, I did forget you, but I am rambling. Then, she quipped "You can take the camera off me now. Am I off?" This was Kellie's first, but not last award of the evening, as she received two other wins for the same song ("I Wonder") in "Performance of the Year," and "Tearjerker Video of the Year."

9. Faith and Tim's performance of "I Need You"

There's always something magical about watching Faith and Tim perform. I've seen them on their last two Soul 2 Soul tours, and they always ended the shows with this setting, face to face, with just the microphone between them. Loved this. They both sounded incredible, as usual.

8. Taylor Swift's acceptance of Video of the Year for "Our Song"

Taylor was adorable when she won the award. She hugged Kenny Chesney and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, who were in the front row before going up on the stage with Trey Fanjoy, the director of the video. She thanked her Myspace fans for all their voting, as well as fans who had built fan sites for her, as she doesn't have a fan club yet. Precious.

7. Trace Adkins winning the Male Video award for "I Got My Game On"

Trace Adkins is such a wonderful performer, and just all around entertainer. But he always gets passed over at the ACM and CMA Awards, when it comes time to nominate someone. I'm so glad he finally got some recognition. Being that this came from the fans really touched Trace. Yes, it's definitely a good year for him.

6. LeAnn Rimes' performance of "Nothing to Lose"

I've always enjoyed LeAnn Rimes' "Nothing to Lose," and the video was fun to watch. The performance pretty much recreated the video feel, with Rimes and the fellow inmates dressed in short gray dresses, and thigh high black stockings and garters. Great production number, and Rimes was in fine voice for this.

5. Sugarland, Little Big Town & Jake Owen performing "Life in a Northern Town"

I was fortunate enough to see the CMT Change for Change tour last year, with Sugarland, Little Big Town and Jake Owen, but they had not compiled this wonderful rendition of Dream Academy's "Life in a Northern Town" at that time. I just loved the harmonies here. I mean, you can't lose when you have Little Big Town as part of any group of performers. Wonderful performance!

4. Trace Adkins trying to score CMT Music Awards tickets in opening video

The short clip parodying Trace Adkins time on Celebrity Apprentice was hilarious, as Trace tried to score some tickets for the CMT Music Awards for his family, ending up going to a scalper for a ticket, who ended up being Billy Ray Cyrus. Very well-done, and my Number One pick for my favorite moment of the night.
