ALISON KRAUSS (Nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year.)

In her early 30s, Alison Krauss has achieved more career milestones than most people do in a lifetime. Born in Champaign, Ill., Krauss began playing violin very young, soon discovered fiddle contests and bluegrass festivals and signed with Rounder Records when she was 14. Since launching her recording career with the 1987 album, Too Late To Cry, Krauss has won seven CMA Awards, including Female Vocalist and Horizon. Songs recorded by Krauss have been featured on movie soundtracks including "Cold Mountain," "Mona Lisa Smile" and "Twister." In addition to producing her own recordings, she's produced two albums for Nickel Creek, two for The Cox Family and has contributed as an instrumentalist or vocalist on albums of every genre. Krauss introduced her band of highly acclaimed musicians, Union Station, on the 1989 album Two Highways. Since then, Krauss has released 10 studio albums, all on Rounder Records, and all with Union Station. They made bluegrass sales history with the 1995 release of Now That I've Found You: A Collection, which sold more than 2 million copies. Her next three albums including 1999's solo project, Forget About It, were each certified Gold. The group's two-disc recording Live is double Platinum and their recent album, Lonely Runs Both Ways, is Gold.
