My 2004 CMA Award Predictions

See who I think will win in each category at this year's CMA Awards.

Horizon Award

The nominees are:

  • Dierks Bentley
  • Big & Rich
  • Julie Roberts
  • Josh Turner
  • Gretchen Wilson
My pick is definitely Gretchen Wilson. None of the other nominees come close. About the closest anyone would come would be Big & Rich. But I really think Gretchen has got this in the bag.

Vocal Event of the Year

The nominees are:

  • Nora Jones with Dolly Parton - "Creepin' In," Blue Note Records
  • Jimmy Buffett and with Clint Black, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, George Strait - "Hey Good Lookin'," RCA Records
  • James Taylor and Alison Krauss - "How's the World Treating You," Universal South
  • Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker - "When The Sun Goes Down," BNA Records
  • Brad Paisley featuring Alison Krauss - "Whiskey Lullaby," Arista Nashville
My pick here is Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss with "Whiskey Lullaby," but I wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy Buffett and friends took this instead. Still going with Brad and Alison though.

Music Video of the Year

The nominees are:

  • "I Love This Bar" - Toby Keith, Directed by Michael Salomon
  • "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere"- Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett, Directed by Trey Fanjoy
  • "Redneck Woman" - Gretchen Wilson, Directed by David Hogan
  • "Remember When" - Alan Jackson, Directed by Trey Fanjoy
  • "Whiskey Lullaby" - Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, Directed by Rick Schroeder
My pick is "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere." Even though it's not my favorite of the five, I think it will take the award.

Entertainer of the Year

The nominees are:

  • Brooks & Dunn
  • Kenny Chesney
  • Alan Jackson
  • Toby Keith
  • Tim McGraw
My pick is Tim McGraw. Alan is the reigning Entertainer, but I really think Tim has been in the spotlight more with his super successful album, and tour, plus his movie role in "Friday Night Lights.

Well, those are my picks and I'm sticking with them, right or wrong. We'll find out on November 9th. Be sure to stop by the Country Forums after the show to talk about who the winners were, and your thoughts on the show.
