GEORGE STRAIT (Nominated for Male Vocalist, Album and Musical Event of the Year.)

From his first No. 1 song "Fool Hearted Memory" in early 1982 through his 51st "I Hate Everything" and right up to today's "You'll Be There," the words "George Strait" and "Country hit" have been synonymous. With 51 No. 1 hits, Strait has scored more No. 1 songs than any other single artist in history and has sold more than 62 million albums while amassing 28 Platinum or multi-Platinum discs - more than any other Country artist. He has won 12 CMA Awards, including the Male Vocalist trophy a record five times, tying with Vince Gill. Born in Texas, Strait started his Country Music career in Hawaii while in the Army, playing in the band Rambling Country. After leaving the Army, Strait enrolled in Southwest Texas State University, where he formed the band Ace in the Hole. Strait signed with MCA Nashville in 1980. He's still going strong today with his latest two albums, 50 Number Ones, which has sold more than 5 million copies and his 33rd album, Somewhere Down In Texas, both debuting at No. 1 on Billboard's Country Album and Top 200 charts. Strait's latest single is "She Let Herself Go."
