Rascal Flatts
Gary Levox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney came together as a group after second cousins Levox and DeMarcus invited Rooney to sit in with them as a substitute player for a gig in Nashville. DeMarcus and Rooney had been playing together in Chely Wright's band, and the trio clicked. In 2000 they released their self-titled debut album, with their first single, "Prayin' For Daylight," taking them rapidly up the charts.
With their blended vocals and soft-pop styles, Rascal Flatts has proven themselves as a crossover success, with followup disc Melt going platinum in only eight weeks. "Bless the Broken Road," the first single from their current disc, "Feels Like Today," has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Song.
