RANDY SCRUGGS (Nominated for Musician of the Year.)

The son of banjo legend and Country Music Hall of Fame member Earl Scruggs, Randy Scruggs was surrounded by music from birth. Friends of the family included the Carter Family and Johnny Cash. Introduced to the autoharp at 6 by Maybelle Carter, Scruggs played guitar on his first record at 13. Shortly after high school, Scruggs formed a rock band with his brother Gary and they later joined with their dad and younger brother Steve to form the Earl Scruggs Revue. While performing in the family band, Scruggs also did session work for Cash, Waylon Jennings and Ricky Skaggs. In 1980, Scruggs formed his own production company and went on to produce albums for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Volume 2, which nabbed him a CMA Award for Album of the Year in 1989) and Alison Krauss. Scruggs picked up CMA Musician of the Year trophies in 1999 and 2003.
