Shania Twain - 2005 CMA Nominee Profile

From , former About.com Guide

SHANIA TWAIN (Nominated for Musical Event of the Year.)

Shania Twain is the top-selling Country female artist with more than 43 million albums sold. And that is just from three album releases. Twain's Mercury Nashville albums The Woman In Me, Come On Over and Up! are certified Diamond for sales of 10 million. She is the first artist to have three consecutive albums certified Diamond. Born Eileen Edwards in Canada, Twain would listen to Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton, singing along in her room at night. At 21, Twain lost her parents in an automobile accident and she took on the responsibility of raising her three younger siblings. She changed her name to Shania, an Ojibway Indian name meaning, "I'm on my way," and started shopping her demos around Nashville. Twain signed with Mercury and released her debut album in 1993, but it wasn't until she met future husband, producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, that her success, and her sound, started to change. In 2004, Twain released her Greatest Hits album, which includes No. 1s "Any Man Of Mine," "(If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here," "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!," "You're Still The One" and more. Twain's Come On Over album reigns as the best-selling album in Country Music and the best-selling album by a female solo artist. Her current single is "Shoes," which is a cut from the Desperate Housewives Soundtrack.
