The Country Music Association Awards are the most prestigious of all the awards a country music artist can aquire. If an album or artist or song won a CMA award, you can be sure the music is some of the best the industry has to offer. The albums below are from award winning artists and groups from the 2005 CMA Awards.
This is the second year Keith Urban has won the Male Vocalist award. What was more surprising, however was his win for Entertainer of the Year. I was pleasantly surprised, and excited to see him take the top award of the night. Keith's most recent album is the 2x Platinum "Be Here." The album has spawned three straight #1 songs, with "Days Go By," "Making Memories of Us," and the most recent, "Better Life," which has topped the charts for 6 weeks straight.
Last year she was the winner of the Horizon Award, and this week, Gretchen takes home the coveted Female Vocalist of the Year Award. Her latest album, "All Jacked Up" debuted at No. 1, and the title track, which peaked at #8 on the charts. This "redneck woman" is most certainly on her way. She performed her current single on the show, "I Don't Feel Like Loving You Today."
This was Rascal Flatts third year winning the CMA Vocal Group Award. Their album "Feels Like Today" contains two #1 songs so far, with "Bless the Broken Road," and "Fast Cars and Freedom," the latter of which they performed on the show.
Kix Brooks & Ronnie Dunn not only hosted the show for the second year in a row, they won the CMA Vocal Duo Award for the 14th time. Their latest release, "Hillbilly Deluxe" contains the #1 single "Play Something Country." On the show they sang the beautiful ballad, "I Believe," also from the same album.
Lee Ann Womack's was nominated for six CMA Awards. She won three. Single of the Year for "I May Hate Myself in the Morning," the second was for the CMA Album of the Award itself. The third award Lee Ann shared with George Strait for CMA Musical Event of the Year, for a song on George's "Somewhere Down In Texas" album, "Good News, Bad News." Lee Ann sang "Twenty Years and Two Husbands Ago" on the show.
Although Brad didn't win this award, the song, "Whiskey Lullaby" which he recorded with Alison Krauss won the CMA Song of the Year Award. The song is from his third album, "Mud on the Tires." The songwriters Jon Randall and Bill Anderson picked up the award. Brad sang the touching "When I Get Where I'm Going."
This was the second year that Dierks was nominated for Horizon Award. Last year, he lost to Gretchen Wilson. This was his year, though. Along with this great sophomore release, he was became the youngest member of the Grand Ole Opry last month.
George Strait won the CMA Musical Event of the Year along with Lee Ann Womack for "Good News, Bad News" from his "Somewhere Down in Texas" album. During the broadcast, he performed another cut from the album, entitled "High Tone Woman."
Toby won the video for Video of the Year for his song, "As Good As I Once Was," off his album, "Honky Tonk University."
Toby wasn't present at the show, and the award was not presented during the televised show.
