Cowboy Troy - Black in the Saddle

Warner Nashville
Bottom Line:

Bringing a new sound to country music, Cowboy Troy's sophomore CD is another rowdy album that makes you want to get up and fix something around the house or just sit down and hang out with friends around a fire. Cowboy Troy has proven on this album that "HickHop" can be a sound that is surviving the test of time. Bringing in reinforcements like Nashville Star winner Angela Hacker, fellow Muzik Mafia member James Otto, and J. Money and co-writing songs with one half of Big & Rich's John Rich, Cowboy Troy has delivered another solid album that will surely turn heads.

Muzik Mafia member and country music's first rapper, Cowboy Troy combines his "Hick Hop" with a rock edge to his new album, Black In The Saddle. Cowboy Troy wrote or co-wrote all eleven songs on this album. He invited fellow Muzic Mafia member John Rich and well known songwriter, Bobby Pinson to also write these tunes. Starting with the first song "Buffalo Stampede," he sings about how some folks think "I showed off, so I got on my horse and rode off." The second song, "Lock Me Up," which features J. Money and Nashville Star's Angela Hacker, is a rocking song, simply about having a good time in a bar and how he better be off "locked up, before I do something crazy," seriously makes you stomp your feet. "How Can You Hate Me?" is an in your face tune that faces the issues some have had with his different styles of music and lyrics. Cowboy Troy faces this issue by simply asking, "how can you hate someone you just don't know, come and see the show, it's gonna be full-fledge." The fourth song on this album, "Take Your Best Shot Now," picks up right where "How Can You Hate Me" leaves off. It is almost like he is telling his "Hick Hop" haters "look at me now." He rocks this tune by saying, "you think your the first one to try and bring me down, buddy you don't know how long I've been around, been on the Grand Ole Opry and you can't stop me now!"

Onto the other songs on the album, Cowboy Troy joined forces again with Nashville Star's Angela Hacker on "Hick Chick." Written by Cowboy Troy and John Rich. This tune is jamming with bass and is a total salute to country and redneck girls alike. Bound to get the music flowing through your blood, it screams for any "hicks chicks, country divas and southern belles." "Man At The Microphone" is talking about how things in the world are pretty much a double-negative, and is a first for Cowboy Troy, by dabbling in political territory. This is a song that shows the sadness in the world today and says "cry out to the Lord Jesus up above, to help the world secure peace and love." "My Bowtie" is the seventh song on Black In The Saddle, and is a song dedicated to his beloved Chevy truck, and sets you right in the mood for the eighth track "Cruise Control," which is a great summer song and lets you appreciate things that everyone loves to do on a hot summer day like "a John Anderson tune, ice cold brews, good friends and good times." "Paranoid Like Me" is another in your face song that faces anyone who has been against him in his musical career and styles. Number ten is another dance tune and is titled simply "Blackneck Boogie." There is a "dance Mix" version of "Hick Chick" and "I Play Chicken With The Train," wraps up the album, which is a remake "barn dance version." If your looking for an album to make you want to move and have fun, this CD would be a great one for your collection.
