Bottom Line:When Rounder Records discovered the fine talent of Darrin Vincent and Jamie Dailey, they probably never dreamed the talent these two guys shared. With amazing harmonies, they have a deep love for bluegrass that shows in every song they sing. Their songs fit the standard bluegrass sound and subjects, but the outcome is nothing but original. Their debut album Dailey & Vincent gives their genre a fresh new sound.
Bluegrass and country music has always walked side by side. They both believe in truth, honesty and will force everyone to truly acknowledge their roots. Whenever you get caught up in life's crazy wheel, just put in a bluegrass album and it will bring you back to earth. Regardless of how successful you become in life, most of us come from similar backgrounds. Our roots are deep, so finding them will always have a positive result. If you are a fan of the classic sounds of Bill Monroe or The Stanley Brothers, or the rolling banjo of Earl Scruggs, you will love the debut album of the new bluegrass duo Dailey & Vincent. Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent know exactly where their roots come from and are proud of them. Every song they sing has pure emotion with a solid foundation. They're not afraid of sharing their views on life, love and religion. It would not a be great bluegrass album without some classic sounding gospel tunes. Well, don't worry, there are plenty of great songs that deserve to be in every hymn book around the world. As soon as the first song starts, you'll know that you're listening to something special. Jamie Dailey is a crafted songwriter as well as musician. He helped write two of the songs, but some of the other writers that helped create these tunes are unbelievable. Songwriters such as Gillian Welch, Doyle Lawson and Jimmy Fortune all lent their talents to help create this awesome album.
The first song off this album is a great tune that goes by so fast you really need a seat belt just to listen to it.
"Sweet Carrie" is about a simple love. It takes place in the eyes of a man in a relationship and the only thing that helps get him through the day as a rail road worker is his other half Carrie. Regardless of how bad everything is at work, he can get through anything with "Sweet Carrie" on his mind.
The second tune was written by a gentleman that got his start with the Statler Brothers. Jimmy Fortune wrote "More Than A Name on A Wall." This is a song that was written with all of the fallen soldiers in mind. It is told by someone who witnessed a mother that walked up to the stone where her son's names appeared. Once she's there, she starts talking to God, explaining to him the stories that she remembered of her fallen son. She also asks God to tell her child that he's much more than just a name on the wall.
"My Savior Walks With Me Today" is a perfect example of the gospel songs I mentioned earlier. If you listen to it all the way through, it leaves you with a positive feeling. The meaning is very simple. They don't have to worry about what tomorrow brings, because they know where their heart stands today.
Dailey & Vincent knew what they were doing when they decided to record their self-titled debut album, all they had to do was make sure the world could hear it and everything else would fall into place.
