Bottom Line:Every once in a while you stumble across an indie country performer who still remembers the true meaning of country music. That person is California's David Langley. You may not recognize the name, but he's been the opening act for some of the biggest names in country music. With a contemporary country music style that's rooted in the past, David Langley's music has a warmth and traditional honesty to it that reminds us of what country music is all about. If you love the more traditional country sound, then David Langley's CD Guitars, Livin' And Lovin' is one that you will want to hear.
When it comes to country music, most people probably don't recognize the name David Langley. Before I tell you about his CD, I'd like to give you a little background on the man and his love of country music. An indie artist, David Langley is the "real deal." He was born in California and was raised on a ranch. Even today, he still calls California's Central Valley his home. David discovered his love of music at a very early age. As a child he played rock guitar. Then at the age of seventeen, tragedy struck when he lost his mother to cancer. After her passing, David found his musical attention turning toward country music, and eventually he started playing as well as singing. David says "Music is so much a part of me, it's like I'm all music through and through." This single dad of two boys stands by his beliefs and his convictions. He told me, "I believe in God all Mighty and still believe in holding the door open for a lady." In his free time, he loves riding horses and cowboyin'. Feeling disillusioned with people in the radio and records industry telling him how and what to record, David struck out on his own, and so far, it seems to be working out well for him. He owns and manages a recording studio and record label called Cody Records. It's on this label where you'll find his latest CD entitled Guitars, Livin' And Lovin'. He wrote 7 of the 9 tracks on the CD and co-wrote the other two with his friends and fellow songwriters.
David's been the opening act for such country greats as, George Strait, Keith Urban, Merle Haggard, Mickey Gilley, John Conlee, Dwight Yoakam, John Anderson, Ty Herndon and Rhett Akins and many, many more. David Langley's CD is modern country, yet still stays true to that traditional country sound. His CD starts off with a really fun toe-tapper called
"It's A Texas Thing." This Texas style swing song would make George Strait proud. Track 2 is a ballad called
"All I Have To Give Her, Is Me." He doesn't have a lot of money, his truck has seen better days, but the one thing he can offer her is himself. And that Bakersfield sound can be heard loud and clear on the song
"I Always 'Buck' It Up." A song he recorded in memory of his friend Buck Owens. If you're looking for the typical screaming guitars and kick drums of modern country, you won't find that here. David's vocals are wrapped around acoustic and peddle-steel guitars as well as piano and drums. So many of his musical influences can be heard throughout this CD. From the soft country ballads to the up tempo guitar picking that would make Jerry Reed smile, this CD is one that every fan of true country music should hear!
