This is a duets album that will knock your socks off. It has a sound and guest list that only Charlie Daniels could achieve. If you like a high energy sound loaded with talent, do yourself a favor and pick it up.
From the time Daniels started performing, he refused to allow his music to be labeled as anything other than CDB music. It has been a mishmash of styles and music that he liked and wanted to do. He's a Southern boy with a Western flair. He is patriotic and isn't afraid to share his views with the world. He is sometimes called an outlaw, but he says that he isn't an outlaw but more of an outcast because he is just himself. He doesn't follow trends or fads. He says, "I can't be anybody but me." And there is no denying the impact he has had on the industry.
Travis Tritt toured with the CDB when he was first starting out and was a must have to be a part of this project. They joined forces for the Ray Charles tune, "What'd I Say." Gretchen Wilson lent her mix of smoke and sultry for a revamped version of the Johnny & June Carter Cash song, "Jackson." It was a bit different than the original but still fun to listen to.
The Scruggs family had taken Daniels under their wing when he first came to Nashville so "Maggie's Farm" was a song done in tribute to Louise Scruggs with Earl, Gary & Randy.
I love good bluegrass so I'll admit that two of my absolute favorite songs on here were "Evangeline" with the Del McCoury Band and "Daddy's Old Fiddle" with Dolly Parton. Both are great showcases of the top notch instrumental work that is a fundamental part of the genre, and very few people can match Daniels on a fiddle.
