Bottom Line:

Dierks Bentley's hard work has paid off and nowhere is it more evident than in his Greatest Hits: Every Mile A Memory album. Not only are fans treated to tried and true favorites, but there are two new songs to sink your teeth into. If that's not enough - five live tracks are also included at the end of the album. Buy and enjoy!

When "What Was I Thinkin'" was released to radio and the accompanying video was getting airplay back in 2003, I knew there was something special about newcomer Dierks Bentley. From that point on until now I've always considered myself a big fan and don't see myself stopping any time soon. Apparently I wasn't the only one who felt that way because not only was the song Dierks' first single, it was also his very first No. 1. Dierks' second hit (which made its way to No. 17 on the charts) was the touching song "My Last Name." In it, fans had the chance to see the artist's softer side as he sang about a very important thing in his life. "How Am I Doin'" was one of my favorites from the first album and the fun song peaked at No. 4 in 2004. With many of Dierks Bentley's songs you feel like you have to sing along and this was evident from an early part of his career.

The dreaded "sophomore jinx" didn't have any hold on Modern Day Drifter as it produced two No. 1 singles and "Lot Of Leavin' Left To Do," which stopped its chart run at No. 3. The whole album was fantastic and had great songs that weren't released as singles, but the two No. 1 songs ("Come A Little Closer" and "Settle For A Slowdown") were beyond amazing. Dierks really went all-out with "emotional storytelling" in them and there's no doubt in my mind the videos helped make them such a hit with fans.

Long Trip Alone has been Dierks' most successful album to date when it comes to hit singles. It also serves as a showcase for how far Dierks' music has progressed in such a relatively short period of time. There's a noticeable amount of maturity in the lyrics and overall production of such songs as "Long Trip Alone" (No. 10) and "Trying To Stop Your Leaving" (still making its way on the charts and has peaked at No. 12). The hits don't stop there - 2006 single "Every Mile A Memory" hit No. 1 as did 2007's "Free And Easy (Down The Road I Go)" (a personal favorite of mine).

New Songs:

"Sweet & Wild" is the first new song on the album and was written by Radney Foster and Jay Clementi. If you think Dierks sounds great by himself, just wait until you hear him with Sarah Buxton. Her voice is so pretty in this simple sounding song and is just the right hint of "something different" to stand alongside Dierks' vocals. They complement each other quite nicely and I think it would make for a good radio single during the summer months. The other new tune, "With The Band," would also be a fun single for any time of the year. It reminds me of the raucous kind of sound that made me fall in love with his music in the first place. There's even a mention of "What Was I Thinkin'" (his first single and No. 1 from 2003) in the lyrics. I wonder how many people will try to sneak backstage to use the line "I'm with the band" just to get to party on the tour bus or in a dressing room. Dierks has really done it this time!

Special Content:

A large part of Dierks' success and appeal to fans is the fact he puts on such a wonderful live performance. He gives everything he has during concerts to please the audience and let me tell you - they notice! With the special content (live performances of five crowd-favorites) you can hear that special connection between the artist and concert-goers. There's something electric there and it comes across through your speakers. Another way of saying thanks to the fans is found in the liner notes. People who purchased a copy of this album from Dierks' Website also had the chance to be named "Executive Producer" in the booklet. They also chose the front and back cover images, as well as voted on songs to have for the live content. Dierks will always be appreciative of his fans and he's shown it time and time again. Now it's time for fans to show some more love by purchasing Greatest Hits: Every Mile A Memory.
