Bottom Line:Being signed to Show Dog Records is a huge honor and takes a lot of talent, and talent is what country's hottest new band is bringing to the table. Pure love and raw devotion is the best way to describe Flynnville Train and their new self-titled record. Prepare to love this album and add it to the top of your favorites. With all the new talent in Nashville, you have to be at the top of your game. Regardless which era of country music you prefer, get this record. These guys are rockin' so hard they will knock you off your tracks.
To have Toby Keith on your side is a huge plus, but add Richard Young from the legendary country group The Kentucky Headhunters and you might as well sit back and enjoy the ride. Enjoying the ride is exactly what you will do while listening to country newcomers Flynnville Train. Richard Young helped produce a few of the tracks on this record. On the first song you can hear the strong, unique influence that The Kentucky Headhunters have on this new group. This undeniable band consists of lead vocalist Brian Flynn and his brother, lead guitarist Brent Flynn. The rest of the band includes bass player Tim Beeler, rhythm guitarist Jeremy Patterson and drummer Tommy Bales. The nice thing about listening to this album, it is like being able to peek into the past, yet still hear a new group of the future. There is no fancy sugar-coating with these guys either. They are in your face, and by the end of this album you know where they stand. With Brent Flynn's "blues" style guitar, and Brian's country-rock voice, they have created an album that is sure to stand the test of time. With this record, you get ten brand new songs, that are bound to make you move from start to finish. "The Good Time" is a great way to start off such a wonderful album and to say it is rockin' would be an under statement, so let's just say this is a monumental foundation of golden tracks for Flynnville Train. "The Good Time" is also a sure crowd favorite at concerts, not only because of the lyrics, but there is a lot of room for audience participation.
If you love the sound of country music with a kick of southern rock, then "Nowhere Than Somewhere" is bound to be a favorite. It is a great story song of love in the south and breaking up. The song is pretty clever, but finally in the end, Brian Flynn admits his girlfriend would rather be "Nowhere Than Somewhere" with him. "Truck Stop In The Sky" sounds so much like The Kentucky Headhunters, and is a great blast from the past. Now, just because on "Truck Stop In The Sky" sounds like The Headhunters, it is not like they copied them, it is more like a tribute to their great songs and contributions to country music. Richard Young from The Headhunters also helped produce this song, so that helped add to the sound. "Tequila Sheila" is a personal favorite, and really gets you moving. It is a great tune that would be good enough to be heard in the best honky tonks throughout the United States. "Tell Mama" follows along the same lines as "Tequila Sheila," but it also has a great "blues" sound that Brent Flynn has perfected to a whole new level. "Redneck Side Of Me" is the slowest song, but don't let it fool you, it is still rockin'. "Honky Tonk Jail" is the last tune on this album, but it is worth the wait. This song has so many different sounds, it is hard to tell who had the most influence. Regardless of who influenced the members of Flynnville Train, they have gained dangerous steam and no one can stand against this locomotive.
