Bottom Line:

There are many ways to hear great country music, whether it be on the Internet or any retail store. Regardless which you prefer, you need to get country music's new duo Halfway to Hazard. They are a phenomenal duo with so much potential that they are going to give the biggest named duos a run for their money. Prepare yourself for platinum in the making with Halfway to Hazard.

The first time I heard Halfway to Hazard was in Nashville, during CMA Fest, and at that point I was hooked. Imagine hearing your favorite performer for the first time and then multiply that by fifty, then you have Halfway to Hazard. This rockin' new duo also has some major backing when it came to recording their self-titled debut album. Country Superstar Tim McGraw and legendary producer Byron Gallimore produced Halfway to Hazard's debut album, and appears to have given them a lot of room to make the music they wanted. Very few artists stand out when talking about strong debut albums, and even fewer make it worth your while to buy a full CD with only a couple of good songs and the rest "fillers," but not this hardcore country, but yet rockin' team.

Both from the backwoods of Kentucky, Chad Warrix and David Tolliver have a multitude of stories to sing about while they were growing up in two separate towns just next to Hazard, Kentucky. Every tune on Halfway to Hazard draws you into to Chad and David's life, background, and their beliefs. While listening to this album, I never felt that it was too mainstream, or too much like everyone else on the radio. Halfway to Hazard is bound for great success in country music. This CD is just the beginning for this awesome duo.

This album walks the line with a strong country sound and a solid rock edge, but there is no question where they come from. They proudly will tell anyone that they are "Countrified." With a great beat, this flowing tune moves right along through their lives and simply states the obvious. "Taking Me On" slows the album down some, but also shows a softer side to the Hazard guys. "Taking Me On" gives credit to women for taking on everything and making it better, or at least helping work through problems. "Daisy" is the first single, and is a slower tune. It is a true love story of a young couple all the way to the end. "Daisy" sure hits close to home for many people and it's success as Halfway to Hazard's first single is living proof they are going to make country music history.

With eleven songs on their debut album, Chad and David had a chance to record a wide range of songs that touched their hearts. Many artists do not attempt to record any form of gospel music, but they've included a new song that touches many things they have done. "Devil And The Cross" proves how many people have "one foot on the solid rock and the other on sinking sand." "Welcome To Nashville" is the final song on the disc, and will leave you laughing. It is how they look at Nashville today and their opinion on how screwed up it is. If you want to add to your collection a CD that you can listen to every song, get Halfway to Hazard.
