Bottom Line:

What an awesome group of entertainers. Bluegrass music went above and beyond when they delivered IIIrd Tyme Out. If you're a fan of Bill Monroe, The Stanley Brothers and Flatts and Scruggs, then you need to get this album. All of their most well known hits have been added to an album called Footprints: A IIIrd Tyme Out Collection.

All the songs that fans have fallen in love with over the years can be heard on one awesome album.

IIIrd Time Out was formed in the early 1990's by founder Russell Moore. Russell was originally with two other bluegrass bands, but they had no luck and quickly disassembled. So, when Russell started putting together his new band, he knew the third time had to be a charm. By it being his third band, he decided to name it IIIrd Tyme Out. Having no clue where this young group was heading, they went full force and have never slowed down.

The current members of this amazing group are Russell Moore, Steve Dilling, Donnie Carver, Justen Haynes, Wayne Benson and Edgar Loudermilk. They are considered one of bluegrass's "overnight" sensations.

In 1994, they won the International Bluegrass Music Awards "Entertainer Of The Year." They didn't stop there, they continued to win the "Entertainer Of The Year" for seven consecutive years. As individuals, they have all won numerous awards, gathering a total of fifty to date. This bluegrass group has amazed fans for nearly two decades, and once you hear this greatest hits package, you too will know why. One nice thing about greatest hits album, you learn more about a group without having to buy a ton of CD's. This typically helps people feel like they are getting more for their money.

I have never really been exposed to IIIrd Tyme Out, so it was exciting to get the chance to review their greatest hits album. As soon as it came in the mail, I threw it in the CD player to see what I had been missing. Well it didn't take long to see that I had missed a lot. They created magic on every song. Some are fast, some are slow, and some are a cappella. These guys also include some great gospel tunes.

The first song is "Footprints In The Snow." It is amazing how bluegrass can take something so simple and turn it into a great song. All they're singing about is, how some people love the summer or spring for the pretty scenery, but they think the winter time is the best when you can see footprints in the snow.

"John And Mary" is another great tune. Singing about a simple kind of love, John and Mary are getting married, and John is telling everyone how excited he is about it. This song really taps into how exciting this time in someone's life truly is in someone's life.

Now, a bluegrass album would not be complete without a gospel song and this album contains a few. "I Pray My Way Out Of Trouble" is a perfect example. Hearing them on this tune will give you chills. It is so easy to believe every word they say.

One classic that is added to this collection is "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot." They recorded this in a cappella. It is amazing and be prepared for a revival. For any fan of bluegrass, this is a must have for your collection.
