Bottom Line:

The Infamous Stringduster's new self titled CD is amazing. If you like fast "in your face" bluegrass, with the sweet traditional sound, you will love this album. It's classic yet new, unique yet refreshingly familiar. This group of talented musicians knew exactly what they were doing when they put together this record of newly recorded material. It will have you moving from the beginning.

Andy Hall (Dobro), Andy Falco (Guitar), Chris Pandolfi (Banjo), Jeremy Garrett (Fiddle), Jesse Cobb (Mandolin), and Travis Book (Bass) make up a team of the finest bluegrass singers and pickers you will ever see. They have mastered the art of each instrument and have recorded one of the best albums ever. Their self titled album will go down in history as one of the ground breaking projects of their time. These guys are awesome professionals. They write most of their own songs and perform each song the way it was meant to be performed. They sing about life experiences and love interests that come and go. They do this all while remaining true to their country roots.

One cool thing about The Infamous Stringdusters is that there are actually three lead singers. They all take turns sharing the stage and this lets each of them have a chance to shine.

This record has a great mixture of slower songs and well as the faster bluegrass style that fans have grown to love. If you're looking for an instrumental, you'll get that as well. All the the "Dusters" had a part in producing their new record, but they also had the help of fellow singer, songwriter, producer Tim O'Brien. From the look of all the pictures throughout the album cover, they appear to have had a great time making this project come to life.

The first song "Won't Be Coming Back" starts off with an amazing fiddle and mandolin sound. It has a hint of Irish culture mixed with a cool blend of the Kentucky bluegrass soul. It's about leaving home and being on a mission, trying to find yourself, but love ends up finding you. Once love is established, it doesn't work out, so now the rest of the time is spent yearning to find that one true love again. It's got a great sound and an even better story.

Travis Book takes the lead vocals on "Bound For Tennessee." This is one of the perfect slow tunes that I mentioned earlier. It will hit a nerve on anyone who hears it. He's in love with a girl, but like so many people, he doesn't know how to tell her. After wasting countless times, he winds up moving on with life and heading to Tennessee. This happens in so many different situations where people just will not express how they truly feel. If you're looking for a song that everyone can relate to, this is it.

Speeding things back up, "You Can't Handle the Truth" is a great track about a love gone wrong. Sometimes when things end badly, some people can't handle the real reason why things went sour. Well, that's the case in this song, but Jeremy Garrett tells her like it is and sets the scene just fine.

"Black Rock" is the perfect way to end an album. It's a fast instrumental and the Infamous Stringdusters hit their mark. This is one of the best bluegrass albums to be made in a long time. They have raised the bar and set the mark. Bluegrass is no longer for grandpa, I promise!
