Right About Now is Ty Herndon's first release in five years, but you wouldn't be able to tell by listening the eleven song collection. The album was produced by Ty Herndon along with Jonathan Yudkin, Darrel Brown, and Dennis Matkosky. "Someday Soon" was written by Darrell Brown, Radney Foster, and Keith Urban. Other writers include: Jess Cates, Kevin Paige, John Mallory, and Marcus Hummon.
"You Still Own Me" is about a man who sold his truck and bought a one way ticket to California so he could be on his own and do whatever he wanted. That wasn't so easy for him, as he realized that his former flame was still tugging at his heartstrings. His thoughts were still being occupied by her despite being thousands of miles away.
With a solid foundation and a little bit of help from destiny, you're bound to experience a "Mighty, Mighty Love" like the couple in the next song. It's that energizing rush you get when you are with the one you love and you just know it is something special to treasure forever. "Oh baby what we have here, is a future with no fear. The horizon is so clear."
Title track, "Right About Now," is one of my favorite songs from the album. Ty's voice really puts forth the emotion and vulnerability needed for lyrics like "She said you'll miss me if you go and I swore before I slammed the door that I'll never think of you again. Oh I was so wrong back then."
When you listen to "Mercy Line" you can't help but sing along to the upbeat song. It's about a man who has been through some rough times but he's on his way back to the top - with the help of a lady's love and patience. He understands her trust might take some time to earn back but "Once you're willing and able, you'll know just where to find me" he says. The love they share is good as gold and he knows things will turn for the better.
"There Will Be A Better Day" is such a pretty song to have at the end of the album. It's message is simple: Keep the faith through hard times because things will get better. Ty sounds incredible on the song and it's enough to make anyone think about how they are living their own life.
It is good to see Ty Herndon back with new music. I've kept up with him through the various singles he's released in the past and I can really tell that he's in a good place right now. All eleven songs flow nicely and fit his voice just right. If I had to change one thing I would add a few more uptempo songs.
