Shooter Jennings - The Wolf

Universal South
Bottom Line:

Shooter Jennings has released his fourth album and just like his first three, he does it his way. The Wolf is in your face from start to finish. Truly displaying what he is made of, Shooter jams hardcore on every song, giving it his heart and soul. Full of Southern Rock and Country, this has got to be one of the best albums he has had a hand in making. Giving his all to every album has helped him create a sound that fans love, leaving this to be one of the best albums released this year.

The only child of legendary country stars Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, Shooter was raised around music all of his life. With a solid, southern rustic voice, he also displays an attitude that allows him to create his own music without the worries of what music executives will think. Continuing to honor his father's legacy, Shooter's album contain mostly independent style Country with the heavy influence of Southern Rock. When he's singing it is obvious it is not Waylon, but you can hear him in Shooter's voice. This combination will make your hair stand up.

When you're the child of two legendary superstars, you're going to have to deal with things that are good and bad. The good being that you have music running through veins, yet the bad is always walking in the shadow of your parents. People have always had higher expectations for Shooter, and he has never let anyone down. Fans realize that he is an individual artist on his own path of life. Shooter has managed to push through boundaries, and although he is not getting huge radio hits, he is still walking away with more fans because he continues to stay true to himself. Whether he is live in concert or in a video on T.V., it is easy to believe every word he says simply due to the passion he has for his music. Although music comes first, Shooter also has acting under his belt as he portrayed his father in Walk The Line. While listening to this album, prepare to hear all sorts of styles that we will simply call "Shooter."

With thirteen songs total, you can plan on hearing songs from the past and present. If you are not familiar with the brand of music from the bayou in Louisiana known as Cajun, then you need to give the first song a chance. Shooter teamed up with Cajun legend Doug Kershaw on "This Ol Wheel." This is a fun song that really shows off each of their individual talents.

"Walk Of Life" is the first single off the album. Originally mastered by the legendary rock group Dire Straits, Shooter adds his own clever touch to make this tune his own. The song itself is just about life in general, blended with his unique voice helps make this song so great.

"Slow Train" is a personal favorite. Shooter teamed up with one of country music's most well-known groups The Oak Ridge Boys. Hearing them sing this song together is awesome. The Oaks singing harmony and Shooter on the lead vocals create an awesome outcome that will be enjoyed by anyone who listens to it. This will go down as one of the best "story" songs that fans have grown to love.

"Concrete Cowboys" and "Blood From A Stone" are both great tunes and have great stories to them as well. Shooter has completed his best album yet. He continues to throw in surprises and special guests throughout the whole album.

Although he does not belong to any category of country music, Shooter delivers his latest album The Wolf to everyone who will listen.
