Bottom Line:

Steve Holy's latest single is a catchy tune that has taken the summer airwaves by storm. The album is a fun listen and will appeal to the younger audience with the choice of lyrics and music. It makes a great CD to pop in for a backyard barbeque or family get together.

Brand New Girlfriend is Steve Holy's new album. It's off to a flying start with the title single climbing up the charts. Released on Curb Records and produced by Michael Lloyd and Mike Curb the album offers a good mix of songs. Holy shows a pretty wide range of talent from the catchy title song to ballads to a little western swing. He even covers the Roy Orbison song, "Only The Lonely Talking," and does very well with that. Overall, the lyrics do seem more geared to the younger audience. With this release he was hoping to draw off the idea of his first release, "Don't Make Me Beg." He liked the sound, tempo and style and wanted to branch out from those roots while maintaining them as a base.

There is a fairly diverse offering on the album. It starts out with the summertime hit "Brand New Girlfriend." It is a tongue in cheek song about how to get over breaking up - you get a brand new girlfriend. It has a catchy tune that makes you want to sing along to it. It is on the total opposite end of the spectrum from his first No. 1 hit, "Good Morning Beautiful" and showcases the diversity of Steve Holy. Two notable ballads are "Come on Rain" and "A Cliff in Colorado." In "Come on Rain" he is imploring the rain to help him stop a plane that his girlfriend is on so he has the time to try and work things out. "A Cliff in Colorado" takes a couple through the happy years to a teary ending. My favorite ballad on the album though, is "All for the Love of Sunshine."[]/b] It is beautiful love song. "Men Buy the Drinks (Women Call the Shots)" is another fun tongue-in-cheek song about how it may be a man's world but women run it. The lyrics are fun. "Hurry Up," "Baby Don’t Go" and "Good Night to be Lonely" are all up-tempo songs. The album is kept fresh and fun because of the diverse offering of songs.
