Paulette Carlson is back and her vocals are as strong as ever. After taking some time off to be with her family, she has recorded and released a solo album aptly titled 'It's About Time.' She has one of the most distinctive voices in the music business, and there is no mistaking who is doing the singing when you pop this album in your player. If you like the serious lyrics with a delivery that hits home, then this is the perfect album for you.
Taking A Break
Paulette Carlson was on top of her game as a founding member of Highway 101 in the late 80's. Such songs as "Whiskey, If You Were A Woman" and "The Bed You Made For Me" made the group a favorite on the radio airwaves. They picked up group awards with both the CMA and the ACM in the late 80's. Paulette left to pursue a brief solo career around 1990, came back with Highway 101 for a 10 year reunion in the mid 90's, and then just disappeared quietly, leaving many fans wondering where she went. For her, she said it wasn't a hard decision, her daughter wanted to not be on the road and Paulette wanted to be home with her daughter while she grew up. For the last 10 years, while living in Montana, she didn't totally give up music. She would write songs here and there and shelf them for a later date. But the defining song that brought her back to Nashville was "Thank You Vets," a song she wrote while her brother was fighting cancer. He was a Vietnam Vet. With that song she decided it needed to be heard and moved back to Nashville to put together a new album. The Present
It's About Time consists of 12 tracks. Paulette wrote & co-wrote 10 of those tracks. A big passion in her life is the support of our Vets. She is very active in that passion, touring on bases and participating in local Legion Post events. For an artist to be this passionate about such a good cause is a great thing. This is a very good album, especially considering she put it together in just a matter of weeks. All the songs have lyrics that carry deep meaning. Many are geared towards family and loved ones. "The Old Glass Case" is a poignant song in which a grown child recognizes the deep love her parents had for each other. "Thank You Vets" is a heartfelt song that expresses a small part of how much their service to our country is felt and appreciated and how much they give up to do this selfless act for their country. This is a very good CD and one I'll enjoy listening to when I spend quiet afternoons at home.
