Guide Review - Mark Chesnutt - Heard It In A Love Song
Mark Chesnutt has one of the finest voices in country music. It is so smooth that it just flows along with the music rather than trying to overpower or being overpowered. He takes a song and adds the emotion behind the words that just draws you in and keeps you there. With this project, he brought out some older songs that have long been favorites of his that he has sung over the years and re-recorded them. Staying true to himself, he doesn't stray from the traditional country sound and what you end up with is pure magic. The title track, "Heard It In A Love Song" was originally recorded by the Marshall Tucker Band. It was one Mark performed in clubs before his own career took off. "Hard Secret to Keep" is a live acoustic version of a song Mark recorded on an earlier album. Tammy Wynette's first single was "Apartment #9" and it is one I hadn't heard in a while. It's always been a favorite of mine. His wife always requested what she termed the 'kissing' song when Mark was playing the Honky Tonks in their dating days. So at her request he recorded the Hank Williams, Jr. tune, "Can't Find Many Kissers." And an album packed with traditional cover songs wouldn't be complete without some Hank Williams, Sr. "Lost Highway" was the perfect choice to pay homage to Hank. This is a great album from start to finish.
