The Bottom Line

Take the Weather With You is a wonderful tribute from Jimmy Buffett to his love of country music. He doesn't give up his unique style, but incorporates it into the music to make Island Country. His love of the genre shines through and this album is well worth checking out. It may not be traditional, but it is great music and great lyrics.

Guide Review - Jimmy Buffett - Take The Weather With You

Jimmy Buffett received such a warm welcome from the country music fans from his last album that he decided to do another project with a country flavor. Take The Weather With You is Buffett style all way. Island print shirts and flip flops meet weathered cowboy hats and scuffed cowboy boots. There is only one Jimmy Buffett and he adds his very distinctive style to an eclectic selection of music. He flawlessly combines his unique style with the country flavor and the end result is very easy on the ears. The devastation of New Orleans hit him hard and a few of the lyrics give testament to his love of that city.

Songs like "Bama Breeze" and "Cinco de Mayo in Memphis" are the light easy sound and carefree lifestyle idea that Buffett has perfected. "Whoop de Doo" is a misleading title for a heart-wrenching ballad. "Elvis Presley Blues" pays tribute to The King with an Island sound. "Wheel Inside the Wheel" really caught my attention. It has a New Orleans Jazz sound meets the Islands and really delves into some of the heart and soul of the New Orleans life. And "Silver Wings" by Buffett was a whole new sound experience. I was a little skeptical of his interpretation of this incredible classic, but he pulled off the Island sound in the background and made it his. This album has a definitely different sound than the normal traditional country, but that doesn't negate the talent Buffett has and his love of the genre. It is a great album.
