Guide Review - Chris Cagle - 'Anywhere But Here'

Though I've enjoyed Chris Cagle's radio singles, for one reason or another I never purchased any of his previous albums. After listening to Anywhere But Here, I can't help but wonder what I've missed out on. From what I can tell, he's remained true to his own style while managing to fine-tune different aspects of his music.

Unless you want a fight, you should think twice before messing with the man in "Might Wanna Think About It." He won't let anyone tell him how or what to think when it comes to close personal beliefs. This song is full of attitude and has a "Don't mess with me" feel. "Wal-Mart Parking Lot" is about a group of high school students who would hang out and learn about life and love "on the hoods of Chevys and beds of trucks." First single, "Miss Me Baby," finds Chris singing about intimate moments he once shared with a lady in hopes it would make her feel bad, only to switch things around halfway through and have him wanting her forgiveness.

Next song, "Maria," is rather intimate sounding. Chris describes how her "kisses knock him over. Make him drunk then leave him sober, and make him feel like he's a man." "Hey Y'all" is on the other end of the spectrum. It's more of a feel good partyin' with your buddies type of tune. There is also a great cover of Bon Jovi's song "Wanted Dead Or Alive." Chris really did a wonderful job on that one. "I'd Find You" closes the album on a loving note. No matter where she is, he will see her beautiful face.
