Billy Currington - Doin' Somethin' Right

Mercury Nashville

The Bottom Line

Billy released his sophomore album after a successful debut that contained the incredible song, "Walk A Little Straighter," that he had written about a child witnessing his father stumbling around being drunk, vowing to not make that same mistake (he wrote the chorus at 12). On Doin' Somethin' Right he shows us that he can write other songs as well, co-writing 4 of the 11 tracks. Billy goes from romantic ballads to some pretty up-tempo countrified songs, plus a soulful duet with the legendary Michael McDonald on "She's Got A Way With Me."

Guide Review - Billy Currington - 'Doin' Somethin' Right'

This album has both love songs and great romping up-tempo country songs. The first one that comes to mind is "I Wanna Be A Hillbilly." This is such a fun song to sing. I have a feeling he has fun with that one on stage. After hearing "Doin' Somethin' Right" on the radio I had to see the video, and if you haven't seen it, catch it, it's a very romantic one. He shows that romantic side of him in another love song talking about if your looking for someone to do romantic things with "Here I Am."

The very first album Billy received was one by Kenny Rogers, and he has been a fan ever since, so to show that appreciation, he cut the song "Lucille," and does a fine job of it.

I don't know if it's because of "sweet tea" mentioned in the song "Good Directions" or what, but it sure made me miss things like that. Might have to make me some after that one.

"That Changes Everything" made me want to get up and two-step right away. I love the steel guitar on this track. Billy knows what works best with a live audience also. He says, "before making this album, I pictured myself singing each song live in front of a crowd." From working for a concrete company, to a personal trainer, to now an awesome country music singer, Billy is now fulfilling his destiny, doing what he loves to do.
