Guide Review - Rex Allen and Don Edwards - A Pair To Draw To

Bring together two great western singers of the caliber of Rex Allen and Don Edwards and there's really no way at all you can go wrong. This disc positively shines with solid performances, Edwards' crisp, clear Texas tenor doing wonderful things for Allen's smooth, deep Arizona baritone. Together they make for a really perfect pair.

Don Edwards is an independent phenomenon, two-time winner of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame's "Wrangler Award" for Outstanding Traditional Western Music and he was featured in Robert Redford's movie, "The Horse Whisperer." Rex Allen is a western legend, the last of the singing cowboys and the voice for the Wonderful World of Disney. This one disc of music they did together, recorded in 1999 (quite possibly the last thing Rex ever recorded), proves that no matter how much the range is developed, or how far away we've come from the true west, there's still a heart beating in the American cowboy. You can hear it in the melancholy lyrics of "There's Nobody Home on the Range Anymore" and "This Ain't the Same Old Range."

Rex Allen passed away on December 17, 1999, just 9 days shy of his 80th birthday. Rex Allen Days are celebrated every year in his home town of Willcox, Arizona, and he is a member of the Western Music Association. Together, he and Edwards put together a disc of lasting quality and true western spirit.
